We were drawn to Chopstix & Rice, a halal Indonesian restaurant located at Suntec Basement 1, because of its impressive Google rating of 4.6 stars. However, our experience was somewhat disappointing. It might have been an off day for the kitchen, as the flavors didn’t quite live up to expectations.
We ordered:
- Chap Chye ($8.90)
- Beef Rendang ($15.60)
- Ayam Lemak ($10.90)
- Asam Pedas Ikan Pari ($14.90)
- Sotong Hitam ($15.90)
- 3 Rice ($3.60)
- 3 Drinks ($10.70)
Total (with GST & service tax): $96.88.
The portions were generous, like the Ayam Lemak, which had three large chicken pieces. Unfortunately, the gravy was slightly too salty. The stingray in Asam Pedas was a great size but overly sour due to too much tamarind. The Chap Chye felt a little dry, and the Sotong Hitam was bland. On a positive note, the Beef Rendang was exceptional—soft, tender, and full of flavor.
Despite the mixed experience, the service and atmosphere were excellent. I’m considering giving them another try in the future to see if it was just an off day.

The restaurant was offering a 59 percent NDP discount on the entire menu, excluding drinks and desserts. The place was dirty, with leftover food on the seats and spilled water on the floor. After dining, the bill came to $135.70, excluding service and GST. However, the discount applied was only about $46, which didn't seem right for a supposed 59 percent off. Anyway, we paid and left. We then noticed a last-minute masking tape on the promo banner outside stating that the discount was not applicable to the curry fish head. I'm not sure why the staff didn't inform customers beforehand, strike off the curry fish head from the promo banner, or remove it from social media. What a scam this is. The food was overpriced, portions were small, and the taste was so-so. We will not be returning.

Other than the beef rendang is ok, the rest is meh. This taste like normal nasi Padang.
Other than the beef rendang being okay, the rest was just average. It tasted like normal nasi Padang.

Located at Terminal 2's L2 public area, Chopstix & Rice was running a 59% off promotion and drew a sizeable crowd when we visited. This discount did not apply to drinks or desserts.
The menu looked promising with a wide variety of options for families, including non-spicy dishes for younger ones. Unfortunately, there were several areas that needed improvement, chief among them the lack of front-of-house staff to cope with serving orders, handling payments, and clearing tables. We waited half an hour for our food, but observed many tables that waited for much longer.
Overall, a promising restaurant but it may need some time to settle into its pace. Not recommended to join the line if the restaurant is already full.

Ordered Ayam Lemak, Sayur Lodeh, and Assam Pedas Ikan.
I've never been more annoyed with the taste of the chicken. It was not marinated at all, had a smell to it (like those frozen chicken kind of taste), and the sauce was so salty. The Assam Pedas fared slightly better as the sauce was sour as it should be, but it was too spicy for someone who doesn't take spice. The sauce also did not penetrate into the stingray and lady fingers.
The only dish that was passable was the Sayur Lodeh. The vegetables had the taste of the gravy, but the tau kwa was deep-fried or something because it was so dry.
Paid $45.68 for 3 dishes and 2 rice. Overpriced and horrible.
