Came here for the roti boyan, which is hard to find in SG. The version here is delicious. The sambal chilli comes with bits of ikan bilis. The epok epok here is also good and always freshly fried.

I've been buying epok epok here for a while and I have to say they've been so consistent. They're so good and affordable too. I've tried a few things here, and I have to say the epok epok sardine is the best I've tried. I've also tried the potato ones; they're okay. I've tried the roti boyan as well, and the sambal is spicy. I highly recommend the sardine epok epok. They have a crunchy texture, are a little spicy but not too much, and a little oily but so good.

I read in Hidayah Amin's book "Kuih" that epok-epok is derived from the word 'berepok', meaning to wrap in a big hug. This describes how the filling is encased in pastry and neatly crimped into crescent-shaped pillows. Each epok-epok is handmade and fried in batches on-site, guaranteeing a mouthful of delight. The pastry is crispy, with curry-coated potatoes, some filled with sardine and onion, and a seemingly unusual filling of ikan bilis. However, the couple running the stall is getting on in years and not always present. So, do check ahead if you're making a special trip for this.

Got a curry puff and roti boyan. I like it when it's still hot when I eat it, and the edges were so crispy. The curry puff has a delicious filling and a small piece of egg. The roti boyan tasted so good with the sambal. I always see them sold out early, and the sardines were always the first to finish.
