Halal Food in 21 Bussorah St
Facing the Sultan Mosque along one of Kampong Glam's most photographed streets, 21 Bussorah Street houses Bhai Sarbat, a heritage tea stall that traces its origins to a 1950s mobile tea-hawking operation. Founders Kabiruddin and Zamir Ahmad worked from a travelling rickshaw before saving enough to open a permanent shophouse location in 1977, strategically positioning themselves on a street that would become synonymous with Singapore's Malay-Muslim heritage.\n\nNow operated by Kabiruddin's apprentice Mohammad Asgar, the stall has expanded from serving a dozen traditional beverages to offering over 120 flavours including contemporary additions like Milo Godzilla and milkshakes. The teh tarik remains the signature draw, with customers watching the tea being pulled in the time-honoured method that creates its characteristic frothy top. Operating from 6.30am to 1am daily, the stall serves everyone from early morning worshippers to late-night tourists exploring the precinct.\n\nBussorah Street's restored shophouses showcase traditional Malay and Arabic architectural elements, creating an aesthetic backdrop that draws visitors seeking heritage experiences. While surrounding units now host cafes and boutiques catering to Instagram culture, Bhai Sarbat maintains its original purpose, functioning as a neighbourhood gathering spot rather than a curated attraction.
