Halal Food in Bedok Point
Bedok Point opened its doors in December 2010 as the first air-conditioned shopping mall in Bedok, built on the site of the former Bedok and Changi theatres. The four-storey development at 799 New Upper Changi Road near Bedok MRT station was marketed as a food haven operating late into the night, featuring 76 specialty tenants anchored by Harvey Norman and an extensive collection of restaurants and cafes. In its early months, Bedok Point attracted over 900,000 shoppers monthly, with developers Frasers Centrepoint positioning it as a lifestyle destination for Bedok residents. However, the opening of the larger Bedok Mall in December 2013, directly connected to Bedok MRT station and the bus interchange, shifted foot traffic away from Bedok Point. The competition proved challenging for the smaller mall, which struggled to maintain its initial momentum. After approximately 11 years of operation, Bedok Point closed on 1 July 2022. The site is being redeveloped into Sky Eden, a mixed-use development featuring ground-floor commercial units and 158 residential units across 17 storeys. The transformation reflects Singapore's ongoing urban renewal, where older developments make way for higher-density mixed-use projects that maximise land use in mature estates.
