Halal Food in Chong Pang Market
Built in 1984, this sprawling market and food centre at 105 Yishun Ring Road has served as the beating heart of the Chong Pang neighbourhood for four decades. With 56 cooked food stalls and 123 market stalls, it ranks among the largest hawker centres in Singapore's northern estates. Located a 10-minute walk from Yishun MRT and easily accessible by bus from stations across Yishun, Sembawang, and Woodlands, it draws crowds from across the far north. The centre has earned serious culinary credentials in recent years. Chuan Kee Boneless Braised Duck holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand award for its signature dish, featuring thick gravy lathered over tender duck meat, tau kwa, hard-boiled egg, peanuts, and yam rice. Ji De Lai Hainanese Chicken Rice joined the Michelin Bib Gourmand 2023 list, while long-timers like Super Penyet have been dishing up East Javanese fried chicken for over a decade. Bedok Chwee Kueh's Yishun branch also operates here, serving their famous steamed rice cakes. However, this bustling centre's days are numbered. The entire site is slated for redevelopment, with Chill @ Chong Pang scheduled to replace it by 2027. This impending transformation has added a bittersweet note to every visit, as regulars savour their favourite stalls knowing the familiar landscape will soon give way to a modernised complex, reshaping a neighbourhood institution that has defined Yishun dining for generations.
