Halal Food in D'Penyetz Heritage

Situated at 5 Kadayanallur Street in the heart of Chinatown, this heritage building occupies one of Singapore's most historically significant addresses. The street is named after Kadayanallur, a town in South India, honouring the Tamil Muslim community who migrated to Singapore and established educational institutions here as early as 1926. The building at Number 5 holds special distinction as St Andrew's Mission Hospital, completed in 1923 and considered Singapore's first modernist building. This architectural landmark served poor women and children before sustaining damage during a Japanese air raid in 1941. After the war, it functioned as the Government Medical Store and later as Maxwell Road Outpatient Dispensary until the late 1990s. Today, the building has been transformed into a lifestyle venue while preserving its heritage character, including Singapore's oldest operational lift. The location connects Chinatown's Maxwell Road to Ann Siang Road, placing it at the crossroads of the area's rich multicultural history.
