Halal Food in Jalan Kukoh Food Centre
Built in 1969, Jalan Kukoh Food Centre (also known as Kukoh 21 Food Centre) stands as one of the older hawker centres in Singapore. Located at 1 Jalan Kukoh near Chinatown, the centre originally housed both market and food sections before upgrading in 2010 converted it to a food-only centre with 21 cooked food stalls.\n\nThe centre earned attention through its hidden gems and social initiatives. Jalan Kukoh Teochew Kueh churns out loads of homemade kueh daily from 7am till sold out, with another round starting at 3pm, run by the Loh siblings. The $2.50 Shop (Traditional Malay Muslim Cuisine), operated by hawker Hani Isnin and her family, has slashed prices of most dishes to just S$2.50 since November 2022, serving weekend breakfast crowds with mee siam, mee rebus, and nasi lemak.\n\nEight minutes walk from Chinatown MRT station, this small hawker centre serves the Jalan Kukoh community with Teochew fish soup, pig organ soup, yong tau hu, and lontong, proving that neighborhood food centres can balance tradition with social responsibility.
