Sengkang MRT/LRT Station (NE16/STC) is a pioneering intermodal interchange station, making history as the first station on the MRT network to integrate all three modes of public transport: MRT, LRT, and bus services. The station comprises an underground North East Line platform that opened on 20 June 2003, alongside elevated Light Rail Transit platforms that began operations on 18 January 2003 with the launch of the Sengkang LRT East loop. The station features a comprehensive four-level structure encompassing two platform levels, a mezzanine, and a ground-level concourse. Serving as the interchange between the North East Line and the Sengkang LRT system, the station operates as the terminus for both the East loop and West loop LRT services in both directions. On the North East Line, it is strategically positioned between Buangkok and Punggol stations, providing vital connectivity for the northeastern corridor. Recent major upgrades completed in September 2024 have significantly enhanced the station facilities, including expanded LRT platforms, new dual-speed escalators, and an additional lift connecting all station levels from platforms to concourse and mezzanine.
