Abang Gemuk, meaning 'fat bro' in Malay, is a halal-certified Western food chain from the team behind Fatty Bom Bom, featuring the same recognizable chubby chef logo and commitment to generous portions at affordable prices. Despite its Malay name, Abang Gemuk specializes in Western cuisine rather than traditional Malay food, offering humongous portions that satisfy hearty appetites. Each Western Grill set includes a choice of meat, Cajun fries (substitutable with rice or pasta), coleslaw, and a bun. Popular menu items include Brown Sauce Chicken Chop, Half Spring Chicken, Cheesy Beef Burger, and various pasta dishes. With multiple outlets across Singapore including Ang Mo Kio, Toa Payoh, Aljunied, Bukit Batok, Sengkang, and Jurong West, Abang Gemuk operates daily from 11:30am-3:30pm and 4:30pm-10pm. Known for perfectly fried fish and exceptional value for money, this halal eatery has become a prime choice for Western food lovers seeking substantial portions without breaking the budget.

I recently visited Abang Gemuk at Bukit Batok Orang Orang. While I must commend that the food was served hot and tasted fresh, the service experience was disappointing. There were no staff attending to the counter initially, and I had to call out to get someone’s attention just to place an order. This gave the impression that customer service was not a priority. A more attentive and welcoming service would certainly make the dining experience much better, matching the quality of the food. The owner should pay very serious attention to customer service to gain customer retention.

Honestly, it started great but sadly, after years of service, their food and everything went bad. Imagine paying $17 for beef with rice, but the rice is hard and the beef feels tough. Not coming ever again.

Just bought Fish and Chips and a Cheesy Beef Burger for takeaway at Bt Batok Blk 134. The fish was cold and looked like it was fried a few hours ago, or perhaps it was a cancelled order that was passed on to the next customer. The fries were also cold and limp. Very disappointed, as I was very happy with the food from my previous order, which is why I decided to order again.

Ordered some chicken for takeaway. Opened up the box at home to find the chicken was literally charred and hard. They fried it to death. A waste of my time and money.

We bought fish and chips with rice. It cost $7.80 + $0.20 = $8.00. The food came stale! It was sticky and had a weird smell. Seriously! Maaf yer. I cannot halal-kan this because you should have known when you did the packing. Bukit Batok outlet.

Abang Gemuk Bukit Batok is now available at Block 134, Bukit Batok West Avenue 6, as the Hillgrove Gardens outlet has closed. Due to its proximity to Eden School, Millennia Institute, and newer Bukit Batok West BTO HDB apartments, this off-grid location seems to generate good footfall.
Cheap, halal-friendly food is the main focus of Abang Gemuk's marketing strategy, and it works well. They have many great items on their menu that are tasty and easy on the wallet. The choices are plentiful, and there's even a special budget meal for the underprivileged. Look out for their bright yellow exterior and the large halal logo. Be sure to order their mains, which are either the rice or pasta set, and get a side dish like Cheesy Chicken Popcorn. Your stomach will thank you.

Pretty extensive menu and good prices. Had the black pepper steak and it was cooked as requested and easy to cut. The sauce was good, and the side portions were huge. It was ready in 10-15 minutes, which was not bad. However, the makcik manning the stall alone seemed to be in a bad mood, so the service could definitely improve. Otherwise, it's relatively okay for a Western neighbourhood stall.

I chanced upon this brand on Grab when I was craving late-night western food. I ordered the fish and chips, and it was so good! The fish was juicy and crispy, and the mashed potato was yummy. The fries were also hot when delivered to me. So, I decided to come down personally to eat. It did not disappoint! I love the fish and chips – crispy and juicy as usual. The staff attending to me was super friendly as well. They have improved and deserve more positive comments. I was here on a Monday night at 8:45 pm.
