The bakery was originally founded by Mr Shaik Jan Bux and simply named Indian Bakery. In 1977, his son Mr Mahmood Hussain took over the business, eventually rebranding it from Indian Bakery to Indian Muslim Bakery, and finally to Indian Muslim Bakery and Confectionery Pte Ltd. This progression reflected both the business's growth and its commitment to serving the Muslim community with certified halal products.

Indian Muslim Bakery & Confectionery became legendary for its curry buns, widely regarded as among the best in Singapore. The signature Indian curry buns were baked to golden-brown perfection, and breaking them open while still hot revealed generous, steaming fillings of curried potatoes that had been perfected over decades. The bakery's karipap (curry puff) was equally celebrated, maintaining traditional recipes and techniques that distinguished them from mass-produced alternatives.

Beyond these savory specialties, the bakery offered a comprehensive range of items spanning from epok-epok and various curry puff variations to eclairs and celebratory cakes, demonstrating versatility across both traditional and Western baking styles. The establishment maintained complete halal certification and operated as a Muslim-owned business, ensuring full compliance with Islamic dietary requirements throughout its operations.

Located on Onan Road, the bakery built a loyal customer base that appreciated its commitment to quality, authenticity, and reasonable pricing. Their Instagram presence (@imbconanroad) proudly proclaimed "Halal SG Based since 1942," emphasizing the eight-decade legacy of service. Though the bakery ceased operations in October 2023, it left an indelible mark on Singapore's halal food landscape, having served multiple generations with authentic, time-honored recipes that represented the pinnacle of traditional Muslim bakery craftsmanship.
