Mala Hotpot represents the growing popularity of spicy Sichuan cuisine in Singapore, offering halal-certified versions of the beloved Chinese mala experience across multiple convenient locations. This restaurant chain specializes in the traditional Chinese hotpot dining experience, featuring the characteristic numbing and spicy mala flavor profile that combines Sichuan peppercorns with fiery chili oil, adapted for Muslim diners with halal-certified ingredients and preparation methods.
The dining experience centers around customizable hotpot options where diners can select from various soup bases ranging from mild mushroom and herbal broths to the signature spicy mala broth that delivers the authentic tongue-numbing sensation. Fresh ingredients include an extensive selection of vegetables, halal meats, seafood, and handmade noodles, with pricing typically based on weight - vegetables at approximately per 100g, meats at .20, and seafood at .20.
With strategic locations at popular shopping centers including Paya Lebar Square, Northpoint City, Changi City Point, and Hillion Mall, Mala Hotpot provides accessible spicy Chinese dining for Singapore's diverse community. The restaurants operate with extended hours, often until late night, making them popular destinations for both casual dining and social gatherings. The halal certification ensures that Muslim diners can enjoy this traditionally Chinese cuisine without compromise, while the interactive hotpot format makes it perfect for groups and families seeking a communal dining experience.

I was quite disappointed with the Mala dish I received. The plate was overloaded with dried chillies—way more than necessary. After separating them out, there was barely enough actual food underneath. It felt like I paid mostly for chilli, not a proper meal. Definitely not value for money, and the experience was not satisfying. I hope the portioning and pricing can be reviewed seriously.

Located inside Changi City Mall. This is a Halal certified restaurant. You can order from the menu or choose your own ingredients from the counter to create a mala dish. Do note that there are different prices for different items. You can see the staff separating your items to charge accordingly, unlike normal mala restaurants which charge everything based on total weight. I do find some items too expensive, for example, $2 for a piece of dried seaweed.
My order came up to $15, mostly vegetables, and I had 3 pieces of seaweed which cost me $6. This was too expensive for my liking.
Service was alright, though the staff decided to serve another customer first when I was waiting for my food to be weighed. It's very unlikely I'll visit again.

First and last time visiting. This store is ridiculously expensive. I should have checked reviews before trying. Don't be fooled by the long queue; they capture overflow crowds from other popular Mala stores.
I had the smallest quantity by weight, but because of their unpublished pricing, mine became the most expensive. Despite asking for non-spicy with no sauce at all, I was charged $3 for a large pot base, compared to my colleagues who had a lot of Mala pot base but only paid $2 for a small one.

This place was overpriced for what it offered, and the food quality didn’t justify the cost. I should have paid more attention to the Google reviews beforehand, as the restaurant was nearly empty even on a Sunday at noon. The portions I received were small compared to what I was charged, which made me feel like some of the items were possibly removed behind the scenes. Additionally, I was surprised to be charged $6 for the soupy mala—far too expensive for what it was. Overall, this was not good value for money, and I don’t plan on returning.

I used to come here in person to get takeaway very often but I recently moved so I resorted to order
I used to come here often for takeaway, but I recently moved and resorted to ordering through Deliveroo. Unfortunately, they tend to mess up my orders. This has happened at least 7 or 8 times now, with the most recent being my last two orders in a row. I usually order two servings of rice, and three times out of ten, they forget to give me my second serving. On my second-to-last order, they forgot my beancurd skin (this has happened a handful of times). And for my last order, they forgot my two servings of enoki mushrooms and beancurd skin, so all I received were noodles and taupok . My orders are typically around $20, and I order multiple portions of the same items, so it's not even a complicated order. Having to constantly request refunds from Deliveroo is a hassle. I love the food, but the lack of attention to customers' orders is incredibly disappointing. The attached photo shows credits I received from Deliveroo for all the times I've requested refunds for missing items.

I was a bit worried after sitting down and reading some of the Google reviews — there were comments about bad food and even cockroaches crawling on the dishes. I had already ordered, so I waited nervously.
Thankfully, the food arrived in just 15 minutes, which I thought was reasonable, especially since I ordered steamed fish. My husband and I were pleasantly surprised — the food came piping hot, and the fish was very fresh.
I’ve learned that you can’t always trust every review online. I’m not a paid reviewer — just a customer who feels it would be a shame for a perfectly good halal eatery to suffer because of a few dramatic or possibly unfair comments.
I’m attaching a photo to show that I did eat here — and yes, I cleaned up my plate!
As for the claim about cockroaches crawling on the food — come on, if that were true, I’m pretty sure NEA would’ve shut the place down by now.

The mala noodles were awesomely nice, with no lingering aftertaste like we usually get with mala dishes. Really enjoyable! The oysters were just 'meh'. Luckily, we only ordered 3 pcs.

Monster Chilli isn't exactly an "atas" restaurant, but it is comfy enough to dine in at. The spacing between the tables is a bit tight if you are plus-sized, but you'll still have ample space to sit, so no worries.
Service-wise, I would say it's a 9 out of 10. It is prompt, but there's always room for improvement. However, let's not be hasty about it, because they do not charge you service charges or table tax, as some countries call it.
But don't get me wrong. Overall, I highly recommend this place to dine in at.
The ingredients are fresh to its finest, and there's also a wide range of ingredients to choose from. The Mala soup base is not oily at all, unlike some places. I ordered the mild spicy, and it came out nice. The spiciness level is just right and not too overpowering, unlike some places where mild spicy causes numbness and sourness in the oral cavity. Their soup base is purely fragrant from the ingredients added into it. The only thing is, if you were to pick any ingredients that are long, such as babat and squid, you might want to bring your own scissors.
Enough talk. Do drop by and try it yourself if you are in the area of Expo.

It's easy to order. The fish (patin) is very delicious; they fry it a bit first before steaming it. I really like it. They also have fresh oysters. The fried squid is fantastic, and the pickled poached fish with glass noodles is very tasty too. There's no table service as you have to pay first and then collect your own food after it's cooked. The staff are mainly there to clear tables after customers finish their meals. There's both indoor and outdoor dining available, and ample parking.

There's a wider selection of ingredients here, like beef and chicken slices, and more types of noodles. However, when I visited, it was too salty. I might come and try again.
