Mum Daughter Kitchen evolved from a home-based Instagram business started in mid-2020 into a physical hawker stall at Chinatown Complex on July 2, 2022. Founded by Mrs. Jahan with her mother's encouragement, this Muslim-owned business brings authentic, affordable nasi padang starting from $2.50 to one of Singapore's most iconic hawker centres.

The labour-intensive preparation process sets Mum Daughter Kitchen apart, particularly the meticulous rempah-making that involves splitting and blending dried chillies. Jahan cooks most dishes using her own recipes, resulting in home-style flavours that customers can taste in every bite. Must-try offerings include Ayam Masak Lemak Chilli Padi and Sotong Masak Hitam, both showcasing the depth of flavour achievable through traditional preparation methods. Her husband Clarence brings over 20 years of food industry experience to the operation, helping ensure consistent quality and efficient service.

Operating Mondays through Fridays from 8:30am to 2pm at 335 Chinatown Complex, the stall serves the lunch crowd with homemade nasi padang that respects tradition while remaining accessible to diverse customers. The Muslim-friendly certification ensures halal compliance without compromising on the authentic flavours that define quality nasi padang. Active on Instagram where they post daily menu offerings, Mum Daughter Kitchen has built a loyal following that appreciates their transition from home kitchen to hawker centre while maintaining the personal touch and authentic taste that first attracted customers to their online business.

I visited at 12:30 PM. The dishes here have limited choices. The menu is very transparent: chicken at $2.50, vegetables at $1.50, sotong at $5.00, and rice at $1.00. My order cost $5. The spice level of the chicken is indeed different from others. There were some tendons in the chicken drumstick, not exactly tender meat. The highlight is that I can feel the effort in the rempah. My only concern is that the food was not kept warm.

This is how Sotong Hitam (Squid Ink dish) should be cooked! Thick, intense flavours. The sotong pieces are cut generously and cooked to tenderness. Other dishes I like are Ayam Lemak Cili Padi and their sambal. So much care and love has been put into their dishes; it almost tasted like I'm eating at my mom's! Please take down their unit number, as you know how confusing Chinatown Complex can be.

Visited last week on 25 Feb 2023. One of my favourite nasi padang spots in SG~ nothing to complain about. The taste is very homecooked and comforting, with a homely style. I had the sambal goreng, sotong hitam, and beef rendang. All were very good! The sotong was fresh and flavourful, and the beef rendang was super sedap – beefy and tender, not tough or stringy. The sambal goreng is on the sweeter side, which complements the other dishes well. Most importantly, the quality of the rice is good and it was warm. The Sayur Lodeh sauce is SOOOOO GOOD and complemented the rendang and sotong very well. Amazing! I'll definitely get that as my vegetable dish next time. All this for $9, which I find reasonably priced. Will be back to try more dishes. The best!

First time trying this stall after seeing it on TikTok. If you love spicy food, this is the place for you. I loved the spiciness from the fish curry and the lemak chilli padi chicken. To my surprise, the kicap sliced beef also had a spicy kick to it. I would recommend anyone to try this stall. I will definitely come back again.

A wonderful local offering of nasi Padang. We tried the black ink squid for the first time, as everyone who had it was raving about it. It is really as good as many have described in their reviews. As usual, we also enjoyed the chicken lemak chilli padi, egg sambal, and fish asam pedas! We will strongly recommend this to anyone interested in trying affordable, home-cooked food! We will definitely be back for more of the black ink squid!

Love the food here. I've come here 3 times in 4 days and everything tasted amazing. I've eaten a lot of Nasi Padang in my life and I can say this is one of the top shops.
