The Badak Berendam at this stall is amazing in all respects. Firstly, it’s freshly cooked by the owners and starts selling around 9 am daily. Secondly, 3 SGD for a generous portion of coconut cream soup and four huge dumpling balls is simply a steal. Thirdly, the taste and texture are great, easily the best I’ve had (I’ve tried about 4-5 in both Malaysia and Singapore). It beats the version at that Michelin Malaysia restaurant any time. The saltiness of the coconut cream, which isn't cloyingly thick, balances well with the inti inside the dumplings. The dumpling skin isn't overly chewy; it's soft with a slight chew, making it very easy to eat. I was surprised that the dumpling skin tasted a bit alkaline, similar to kueh kosui. I haven't found any recipes that use alkaline water, so I'll have to confirm with the owner next time. The owner recommended warming up the dish, and I thought it was a great suggestion. I'm happy to have stumbled upon this stall. (If the owner is reading this review, thank you for taking the time to explain about the treat!)
