Putra Minang stands as one of Singapore's most authentic Indonesian Padang restaurants, bringing the rich culinary heritage of the Minangkabau people from West Sumatra to local and international communities. This Muslim-owned establishment has earned recognition as serving some of the best authentic nasi padang in Singapore, with multiple convenient locations including Somerset Bencoolen and International Plaza that cater to both business districts and shopping areas.

The restaurant specializes in traditional Minangkabau cuisine, featuring their legendary Beef Rendang as a signature dish alongside other authentic offerings like Ayam Opor, mind-blowing asam pedas, and distinctive satay padang with its unique savoury, umami-rich sauce and beef broth base. Their nasi ambeng sets provide excellent value with generous portions, while the extensive menu showcases the complexity and depth of Padang cooking traditions that have been carefully preserved and adapted for Singapore's diverse palate.

Particularly beloved by Indonesian expatriates, students, and tourists who appreciate the authentic taste that reminds them of home, Putra Minang operates spacious, air-conditioned venues suitable for family dining and private events. The restaurant's commitment to maintaining traditional cooking methods while offering reasonable pricing in Singapore's expensive dining landscape has made it a trusted destination for anyone seeking genuine Indonesian flavours, with dine-in, takeaway, and delivery options ensuring accessibility across the island.

$15 for this plate is pretty expensive. I had the chicken, squid, and long beans. The taste was decent but way too pricey; I would rather visit other Padang shops of similar quality for a lower price.

This is a Malay restaurant located within a hotel. The taste of the food was generally nice, but the texture was not. For example, the prawns were overcooked and therefore tough. Regarding the chicken curry, we initially thought it was drumstick but it turned out to be breast meat, which was dry and the curry flavour didn't penetrate. The satay sticks were actually just chicken meat sticks, not true satay. The deep-fried fish was crispy, though a bit salty. Lastly, as a restaurant in a hotel, I would expect a certain level of cleanliness, but most of the tables and benches were dirty, and no one seemed to bother cleaning them.

It seems there are several polarizing reviews, and I can't speak for the times others have had poor experiences here because I wasn't there at the same time. However, what I can say is that I have never had a bad experience at Putra Minang at Bencoolen in the more than a dozen times I have eaten there. Firstly, I think like how many people don't know and can't tell the difference between Hill Street Tai Hwa and High Street Tai Wah for Pork Noodles, many here don't know the difference between Nasi Padang and Nasi Campur (local Malay rice). To be fair, it doesn't help that many local Malay Rice Stalls call themselves Nasi Padang simply because it sounds better than Nasi Campur. What's the difference? The origins of Nasi Padang mean that the recipes and cooking originated from a place called Padang, in Indonesia. Therefore, if one eats at Putra Minang thinking and expecting Singapore or Malaysian style Malay Rice, then they have already gotten off on the wrong foot. Simply ask any Indonesian living or working in Singapore for some months, and they'll likely tell you that Putra Minang is as authentic Padang food as one can get in Singapore. Yes, the flavours are punchier. Yes, their cooking is generally a little saltier. Yes, their meats are a little stringier. And THESE are all things that make them AUTHENTIC. So, please, know your foods before criticizing. It doesn't mean that because you don't like a certain genre of food, they dish out one-star foods. You're just being mean and ignorant.

Indonesian Padang food never disappoints; it's very authentic and nice compared to Malay versions. The chilies are also good. It's a great place to eat with a pleasant environment too.

Putra Minang food concept really tuck within city town. Inside here shall complete any 🍚 rice eating

The Putra Minang food concept is really tucked away in the city town. Inside here, it will satisfy any rice-eating lovers. The platter comes complete with sambal paru, terong sumbat, sambal goreng, and many more. But their signature rendang minang truly stands out. The rendang meat is cooked with all the spices and has an easy-to-eat texture. Rare moments and absolutely goodness.

If you're looking for authentic and flavorful Padang cuisine, Putra Minang is a great choice! Their rendang is absolutely amazing—tender, rich in spices, and cooked to perfection. It’s easily one of the best rendang dishes I’ve had in Singapore. The restaurant is also very conveniently located, near both the mosque and the MRT station, making it an ideal spot for a quick meal or a gathering with friends and family. The pricing is reasonable for the quality and portion sizes, offering great value for those craving delicious Indonesian food. Another great thing is that they allow bookings for iftar, making it a perfect place to break fast during Ramadan with a comforting and satisfying meal. Highly recommend for anyone looking for authentic Indonesian flavors in a cozy and accessible setting! Will definitely come back!

Indonesian nasi padang is always a hit with me, and this place is still my go-to spot for authentic

Indonesian nasi padang is always a hit with me, and this place remains my go-to spot for authentic Indonesian nasi padang. (Sari Ratu on Pahang Street used to be my go-to, but they've closed down.) They offer a wide variety of options here. I ordered via Grab for a "built yr own craving box". It's $12 per pack, and I chose the banana leaves pack. The portion was huge and could easily be shared by two people.
