Shami Banana Leaf Delights stands as a distinguished halal-certified Indian restaurant chain that has grown from humble beginnings as a small biryani stall in Northpoint shopping mall to become a respected name across multiple Singapore locations including Causeway Point, Century Square, Northpoint City, and Sembawang Road. This evolution reflects the restaurant's commitment to authentic Indian cuisine while adapting to Singapore's diverse dining preferences and expanding accessibility to quality halal Indian food.

The restaurant specializes in authentic Indian biryani served with either mutton or chicken, alongside an impressive array of traditional dishes that showcase the rich culinary heritage of the Indian subcontinent. Their must-have offerings include aromatic mutton (bone) curry and masala chicken, with their chicken biryani earning particular acclaim for its rich, thickened dry curry sauce prepared masala-style. The restaurant occasionally features special items like flower crabs, demonstrating their commitment to variety and seasonal offerings.

Shami Banana Leaf Delights has successfully positioned itself as an accessible yet authentic Indian dining destination, with meals averaging around $9.50 that provide adequate portions for adult diners. I ordered a fish sambal biryani and requested for fish body parts, but instead, they gave me fish tail in the fish curry. I ordered this from the Causeway Point outlet for home delivery. I regret to say that although I've been a frequent customer of Samy Biryani for many years, this has never happened before. It looks like the service has gone down and nobody cares about it.

I ordered a Bone Mutton Biryani through Grab delivery and was very disappointed with what was delivered. 1st issue: Left picture - advertised on menu Right picture - delivered The biryani was not delivered as advertised. Basmati rice was used, but it had no biryani flavour at all. It felt like I was eating plain white rice with colouring; the rice was very bland. The image advertised on the menu was very misleading. Disappointed! 2nd Issue: The mutton was uncooked. The meat was hard and not able to peel off the bone. Totally disappointed. My entire dinner was ruined. Will not order from Shami’s anymore.

As the name suggests 'banana leaf', the food (vegetarian meals) served is neither authentic nor 'local style'. Usually, in any restaurant, meals come with 2 or 3 vegetables, sambar, rasam, and curd/buttermilk. In this shop, the curd is chargeable. To my surprise, drinking water is also chargeable. The rice served is very little and not even enough for the sambar & rasam. When I requested a bit more rice, it was also chargeable. The service staff are only interested in taking orders and not attending to the customers. Finally, during my payment at the counter, the staff was hesitant to listen and not even bothered by my query/suggestion.

Shami Banana Leaf never fails to impress! Back for the second time, and the food was outstanding once again. The curry fish head was bursting with flavor—perfectly cooked, rich, and satisfying. Their nasi briyani is equally amazing, with fragrant rice and tender, flavorful meats that leave you craving more. The quality and consistency of their food are simply top-notch, making it a place I’ll keep coming back to. Highly recommend Shami Banana Leaf for anyone looking for authentic and delicious dishes. Truly one of the best!

I always satisfy my craving for Indian fish head curry at Shami Banana Leaf. As a Chinese, I've developed a craving for Indian fish head curry since I was young. I love it so much that I've tried all Indian restaurants in Little India, and none of their fish head curries can win against Shami. Shami's fish head curry is cooked upon order. Most other restaurants precook the fish head, then upon order, they heat up the curry and pour it into the pot with the precooked fish head – this makes the fish head meat cold. Highly recommended for Indian fish head curry lovers.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meals here. The dum mutton was super tender and delicious. The staff recommended chicken on a hot plate, and if you like the 'wok hei' aroma, it will be a palatable dish for you. The fried cauliflower was also a good recommendation, but if you don’t like fried food, it's best to give it a miss. The papadam served was fragrant too. For the chicken, I would recommend skipping the dum chicken and opting for the chicken biryani instead, as it also comes with a few side vegetables. I found the dum chicken to be not overwhelming and preferred the biryani version. The place is well-ventilated, spacious, and cool. Service was friendly, especially an elderly service lady who was smiley and approachable. Definitely one of my favourite Indian fare restaurants.
