The portion of gado gado is just right. Perhaps because it was still early, the satay sauce wasn't heated up yet. I was served a cold plate of gado gado, which really made me want to "quarrel" over the cold dish! It would have been perfect if the satay sauce was hot.

This stall serves great nasi sambal goreng. They are quite generous with the portions. The queue is usually not too long, and they prepare the food quite fast. I love the kupang goreng here. However, some of the other dishes are not available if you come by early in the morning, like 8:00 am. They seem to need more time to prepare some of their dishes.

It is really my no. 1 ayam penyet now. Value for money. The crunch and the keropok are very crispy. It's like a set meal with a separate bowl of curry vegetables. The sambal is like the Malay-style nasi lemak chilli and is not as spicy as what I had in Indonesia.

For Jummah Mubarak after Friday's prayers at this far corner of Bedok, it's not only about avoiding the many degustation temptations but also, for someone like me who prefers a lighter lunch, quite a challenge. Mostly due to my own greed or 'rambang mata' as the Malays would say. Guilty as charged! :)
After much scouting at the small but wonderfully packed hawker centre with many halal stalls, I chanced upon Tahu Goreng, or Fried Tofu, done the classic Malay style. Basically, it's a large square tofu topped with blanched bean sprouts and diced cucumber, then covered by the most delectable, aromatic peanut sauce. This stall's old-school authentic offering had a darker peanut sauce that promised a richer delight. Per chance, I saw they had Paru, or fried lungs, and thought, why not? It's quite a good pairing, and when combined, it's more than satisfying. Sedap!
Then I felt why not treat myself to some sweet dessert Kueh treats. I had to be careful not to be overly greedy as I wanted to sample each one, which is linked to wonderfully fond childhood memories. I restrained myself with a choice of three for two dollars fifty cents. No more cheap kuehs in Singapore anymore. At least I knew I could finish them and not waste any. There is only so much one can 'makan'.
The kind drink stall seller ensured my fresh lime juice was truly fresh. Delicious and wonderfully complemented the food.
Pop over and if you're not concerned like me – :'( – let go and try as many temptations there.
