Rising within District 27's northern residential belt, 361 Sembawang Crescent forms part of Sun Natura, a modern HDB development completed in 2019 comprising 1,178 units across nine blocks. Built on 99-year leasehold land, this estate represents the latest phase of Sembawang's transformation from rubber plantation to naval base to thriving new town, a journey spanning nearly two centuries. Sembawang derives its name from a timber tree that flourished along rivers in the area's dense forests before 19th-century cultivation of pepper, gambier, coconut and rubber. The British Navy established a major base here in 1928, officially opened in 1938 to defend Far East territories. Post-independence, the Singapore government converted the naval base into Sembawang Shipyard in 1968, spawning SembCorp, a major industrial conglomerate. Sembawang New Town development began in the mid-1990s, completed by 2004 after filling southern mangroves and grasslands. Today, Sun Natura's residents benefit from proximity to Sembawang MRT station and comprehensive amenities including Sun Plaza, Sembawang Shopping Centre, and the 2022-opened hawker centre and polyclinic at Bukit Canberra.
