Halal Food in Adam Road Food Centre
Opened on 28 September 1974 by Minister for Law Edmund W. Barker, this 32-stall hawker centre at 2 Adam Road near Bukit Timah Canal replaced an earlier centre demolished to make way for the Adam Road flyover. Built at a cost of 24,500, the centre has evolved over nearly five decades into one of Singapore's most celebrated food destinations, particularly renowned for its Muslim cuisine offerings. International recognition arrived in 2023 when three stalls earned Michelin Bib Gourmand awards: Adam Rd Noo Cheng Big Prawn Noodle, Bahrakath Mutton Soup, and Selamat Datang Warong Pak Sapari. But perhaps the most famous stall is Selera Rasa, a nasi lemak specialist reportedly patronised by Hassanal Bolkiah, the Sultan of Brunei, during his Singapore visits. This hawker centre has also attracted political heavyweights, with US Vice President Joe Biden dropping by in July 2013 and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau visiting in November 2018. The bustling centre draws both locals and tourists willing to make the trip to the Bukit Timah area for its diverse culinary spread. While Muslim food dominates the offerings, the full spectrum of hawker fare features across the 32 stalls. Its proximity to the Singapore Botanic Gardens makes it a popular post-stroll meal stop, combining nature and authentic local flavours in one convenient visit.
