Halal Food in Burgs Singapore

Bussorah Street earned its name in 1910, inspired by Basra in Iraq, and has served as a cultural gateway to Singapore's Malay and Muslim heritage for over two centuries. At 16 Bussorah Street, the two and three-storey shophouses built between 1840 and 1900 stand as conserved reminders of when this area was known as Kampong Kaji, the Pilgrim Village where Muslims would congregate before their Hajj journey to Mecca. Under Raffles' 1822 settlement plan, Kampong Glam was designated for the Sultan and his household, along with the Malay and Arab communities. Today, the street leads directly to Sultan Mosque, one of Singapore's most significant Islamic landmarks. The neighbourhood underwent conservation in 1989, and now the historic shophouses house a vibrant mix of traditional businesses, modern cafes, and restaurants. During Ramadan, Bussorah Street transforms into an open-air bazaar lined with food stalls, maintaining its role as a gathering place for the community while welcoming visitors who come to experience Singapore's multicultural heritage.
