Changi Airport Terminal 2 opened its doors in late 1990, nine years after Terminal 1, as part of a strategic Phase 2 development responding to the region's burgeoning demand for air travel. The terminal reflected Singapore's determination to cement its position as a premier aviation hub, designed to handle the surge in passenger numbers that characterized Southeast Asia's economic boom. Spanning 358,000 square metres with an annual capacity of 28 million passengers, Terminal 2 has continuously evolved to meet changing travel needs. The facility underwent a substantial renovation in 2020, introducing automated immigration counters, an advanced baggage storage system, and two additional baggage carousel belts. Following a temporary closure during the COVID-19 pandemic, Terminal 2 reopened in November 2023 with enhanced dining, retail, and recreational options that elevated the passenger experience. The terminal's signature Enchanted Garden, the airport's fifth themed garden, offers travellers a free, round-the-clock sanctuary amidst the transit hustle. Connected to Terminal 1 via the Skytrain system, Terminal 2 provides comprehensive services including baggage storage, baby care rooms, charging points, and car rental facilities. The terminal's 2006 upgrade, which cost 240 million dollars, modernized its operational systems and facilities. Today, Terminal 2 stands as a vital component of Changi Airport's reputation as one of the world's most awarded airports, balancing efficiency with passenger comfort in equal measure.
