Halal Food in Dhoby Ghaut MRT Station
Dhoby Ghaut MRT Station (NS24/NE6/CC1) is Singapore first triple-line underground interchange station, strategically positioned at the eastern end of the renowned Orchard Road shopping belt. Opening in December 1987 to serve the North South Line, the station evolved into an interchange when the North East Line opened in June 2003, and made history in April 2010 by becoming the nation first station to serve three MRT lines with the addition of the Circle Line. The station name derives from the Hindi terms dhoby meaning washerman and ghat meaning place or steps along a river, reflecting the area historical identity as a traditional Indian open-air laundry. Located at the junction of Orchard Road, Handy Road, and Bras Basah Road, Dhoby Ghaut is Singapore largest underground railway station and the second deepest at 28 metres below ground level. During peak hours, the station handles approximately 20,000 commuters per hour, testament to its crucial role in the transport network. Dhoby Ghaut offers six exits across two levels: four at ground level (A, B, E, F) and two below ground (C, D), with most providing barrier-free access. Exit C connects to Istana Park underpass and Plaza Singapura Basement 2, Exit D links directly to Plaza Singapura, whilst Exits E and F integrate with The Atrium@Orchard. This extensive connectivity makes Dhoby Ghaut the premier gateway to Orchard Road shopping district, nearby educational institutions, and cultural landmarks, serving both daily commuters and tourists exploring central Singapore.
