Kampung Admiralty represents a groundbreaking approach to community design, standing as Singapore's first integrated public development that brings together multiple public facilities under one roof. Completed in May 2017, this 11-storey "modern kampung" in the heart of Woodlands has redefined what a community hub can be. Designed by award-winning architectural firm WOHA, the development follows a unique "Vertical Kampung" concept with distinct stratums. The Community Plaza occupies the lower levels, while a comprehensive medical centre providing specialist outpatient care sits in the middle stratum. The upper levels feature a Community Park with 100 flats specifically designed for elderly residents, alongside an Active Ageing Hub co-located with a childcare centre. The integrated complex houses a 900-seat hawker centre offering diverse food options, complemented by various dining and retail outlets. Since opening, over 190 community activities have been held in the Community Plaza, fostering genuine social connections among residents of all ages. The development's commitment to sustainability is evident in its 1.2 acres of self-irrigating landscape featuring 730 trees of 58 species and over 80,000 shrubs, achieving an impressive Green Plot Ratio of 110 percent. This vibrant community hub succeeds in bringing together families, friends, and the public to create an active, multigenerational gathering space.
