Halal Food in Tanglin Halt Food Centre
Tanglin Halt Food Centre is an iconic hawker centre with a rich history dating back to 1964, making it one of Singapore oldest hawker establishments. Located within the Tanglin Halt estate, the centre received a facelift in 2003 and currently comprises 28 cooked food stalls and 89 market stalls serving the Commonwealth area. The estate has two food centres: Tanglin Halt Food Centre at Block 1A and Tanglin Halt Market diagonally across at Block 48A. The area is undergoing significant redevelopment, with a new Tanglin Halt Integrated Development planned. Most stallholders from the former Commonwealth Drive Food Centre have relocated to Margaret Drive Hawker Centre, while the remaining market will eventually transition to the new integrated development. The food centre is renowned for several popular stalls that have served the community for decades. Wei Yi Laksa serves favourite laksa and prawn noodles, while Guangzhou Mian Shi Wanton Mee was featured in Eric Khoo film Wonton Mee. Chef Hainanese Western Food draws queues from 6:30pm onwards despite only opening at 7pm, testament to its popularity. Tanglin Halt Original Peanut Pancake uses a decades-old yeast starter, maintaining traditional preparation methods. The hawker centre represents a piece of Singapore hawker heritage, serving generations of residents with affordable, quality hawker fare.
