Halal Food in Tanjong Pagar MRT

Tanjong Pagar MRT Station (EW15) is an underground station on the East West Line, located at Maxwell Road between the junctions of Peck Seah Street and Cecil Street in the Downtown Core. Opening on 12 December 1987 as part of the system extension to Outram Park, the station was originally designated as Maxwell before being renamed Tanjong Pagar in November 1986 by the MRTC to give the MRT system a distinctive local character. The station name derives from Tanjong Pagar Road, which translates to cape of stakes in Malay, reflecting the area historical origins as a fishing village perched on a former promontory. Today, the station serves the bustling Tanjong Pagar business district, seamlessly integrated with the Guoco Tower development through the Ticket Concourse and Tanjong Pagar Xchange levels, creating a sophisticated underground retail and transit environment. A striking artistic centrepiece, Tradewind by Anthony Poon, graces the station ceiling. This impressive 560-kilogram stainless steel installation features triangular plates designed to evoke ship sails, celebrating Singapore maritime heritage. The station underwent significant upgrades in June 2006 to enhance disabled access, followed by the opening of Tanjong Pagar Xchange retail area in late 2008. In 2013, Tanjong Pagar became one of the first six MRT stations equipped with flood barriers, demonstrating the authorities commitment to infrastructure resilience in this low-lying downtown area serving thousands of office workers and residents daily.
