About This Directory

This directory is sourced from the official MUIS (Islamic Religious Council of Singapore) halal certification list at halal.muis.gov.sg.

We periodically check the MUIS registry for new certifications and establishments that have not renewed or had their certification revoked. When a certification lapses, we retain the record so you can see the full certification history — when it was certified and when it expired.

Establishments marked In Directory are linked to our halal food directory with reviews, photos, and location details.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is MUIS halal certification?
MUIS (Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura) is the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore. It is the sole authority for halal certification in Singapore, ensuring food establishments comply with Islamic dietary laws (Syariah). MUIS certification is widely recognised across Southeast Asia.
How long is MUIS halal certification valid?
MUIS halal certification is typically valid for one year. Establishments must renew their certification annually, undergoing inspections and audits to maintain compliance. If not renewed, the certification status changes to "Not Renewed".
What is the difference between the Eating Establishment and Food Preparation Area schemes?
The Eating Establishment scheme covers restaurants, hawker stalls, cafes, and other venues where food is served directly to customers. The Food Preparation Area scheme covers central kitchens, food manufacturers, and catering kitchens where food is prepared for distribution.
What happens when a MUIS certification expires?
When a MUIS halal certification is not renewed, the establishment's status changes to "Not Renewed" and it can no longer claim to be halal certified. In rare cases, MUIS may revoke a certification if the establishment violates halal requirements. We retain these records so you can see the full certification history.
How often is this directory updated?
We periodically check the official MUIS halal registry at halal.muis.gov.sg for new certifications, renewals, and status changes. Our goal is to keep this directory as current as possible.
Is MUIS halal certification the same as Muslim-owned?
No. MUIS halal certification is an official audit-based certification by the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore. Muslim-owned businesses are owned by Muslims but may or may not have formal MUIS certification. Both are considered halal, but MUIS certification provides an additional layer of verification.
