Epok-epok Story, located at 166 Jalan Besar, #B1-11 in Singapore's historic Jalan Besar area, has established itself as a beloved halal destination for traditional curry puffs that celebrate Singapore's rich snack food heritage. Operating from Berseh Food Centre, this family-run stall is managed by an elderly Malay couple who have dedicated themselves to preserving the authentic taste and preparation methods of traditional epok epok (curry puffs). The stall has earned an impressive Google rating of 4.9/5 from customers who appreciate the authentic taste, quality, and handmade craftsmanship that goes into every curry puff produced.

The menu at Epok-epok Story focuses on perfecting the traditional art of curry puff making, offering a variety of fillings that cater to different tastes while maintaining the authentic flavors that have made these snacks a beloved part of Singapore's culinary landscape. The stall offers four main varieties: Kentang (potato), Sardine, Sayur (vegetable), and Ayam (chicken), all priced affordably at $2 for three pieces. What sets their epok epok apart is the oval shape, crisp exterior, and moist, flavorful fillings that result from using time-honored recipes and preparation techniques. The stall also features the less common Roti Boyan served with sambal ikan bilis, adding variety to their traditional offerings and showcasing the regional diversity within Singapore's Malay snack food traditions.

The significance of Epok-epok Story extends beyond just selling curry puffs – it represents the preservation of Singapore's culinary heritage and the importance of traditional food craftsmanship in a rapidly modernizing city. Operating Monday to Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM (with some sources indicating Saturday hours from 8 AM to 2 PM), the stall maintains traditional working hours that reflect the heritage food culture of Singapore's older generation. The handmade preparation and on-site frying ensure that every customer receives fresh, crispy curry puffs that maintain their authentic taste and texture. This dedication to quality and tradition has made Epok-epok Story a must-visit destination for those seeking genuine Singaporean snack experiences and a living example of how traditional food businesses continue to thrive in Singapore's contemporary food scene.

Came here for the roti boyan, which is hard to find in SG. The version here is delicious. The sambal chilli comes with bits of ikan bilis. The epok epok here is also good and always freshly fried.

I've been buying epok epok here for a while and I have to say they've been so consistent. They're so good and affordable too. I've tried a few things here, and I have to say the epok epok sardine is the best I've tried. I've also tried the potato ones; they're okay. I've tried the roti boyan as well, and the sambal is spicy. I highly recommend the sardine epok epok. They have a crunchy texture, are a little spicy but not too much, and a little oily but so good.

I read in Hidayah Amin's book "Kuih" that epok-epok is derived from the word 'berepok', meaning to wrap in a big hug. This describes how the filling is encased in pastry and neatly crimped into crescent-shaped pillows. Each epok-epok is handmade and fried in batches on-site, guaranteeing a mouthful of delight. The pastry is crispy, with curry-coated potatoes, some filled with sardine and onion, and a seemingly unusual filling of ikan bilis. However, the couple running the stall is getting on in years and not always present. So, do check ahead if you're making a special trip for this.

Got a curry puff and roti boyan. I like it when it's still hot when I eat it, and the edges were so crispy. The curry puff has a delicious filling and a small piece of egg. The roti boyan tasted so good with the sambal. I always see them sold out early, and the sardines were always the first to finish.
