Goh Chew Kee BBQ Seafood operates at Newton Food Centre, one of Singapore's most famous hawker centers, located at 500 Clemenceau Avenue North, #01-19. Operating from 4:30 PM to 1:30 AM on Fridays and Saturdays, and 4:30 PM to 11:30 PM Sunday through Thursday, this stall serves the evening and late-night crowd seeking grilled seafood in the iconic Newton atmosphere.

The stall offers classic Singaporean seafood dishes prepared in zi char and BBQ styles, serving BBQ seafood, Chinese cuisine, Western dishes, chicken, vegetarian options, beef, lamb, fusion, Thai, and Indonesian cuisines. This diverse menu allows customers to enjoy various preparations beyond just seafood, accommodating groups with different preferences.

Newton Food Centre itself holds legendary status in Singapore's hawker culture, famous for its seafood stalls that have fed generations of Singaporeans and tourists. The outdoor setting, bustling atmosphere, and late operating hours create a quintessentially Singaporean dining experience that combines quality food with cultural immersion.

However, potential diners should note conflicting information regarding Goh Chew Kee's halal certification status. Multiple sources including Halal Tag Singapore and Asia Halal Directory list Goh Chew Kee BBQ Seafood as "Halal Certified" under "Hawkers" category. The stall itself states "We are selling Seafood with halal certified."

Conversely, one recent source from May 2025 explicitly states "No, the stall is not halal-certified." This conflicting information creates uncertainty about the current certification status.

Given this discrepancy, Muslim diners are strongly advised to check for the displayed Halal certificate before ordering and verify the certification status directly with the stall operators. Halal certifications require periodic renewal, and status can change over time.

For those who confirm halal status, Goh Chew Kee provides access to the Newton Food Centre experience, allowing Muslim diners to participate in one of Singapore's most cherished food traditions while maintaining dietary compliance.

The worst stingray I've ever had. It was too sweet, not spicy enough. I paid $24 for only two small slices and regretted buying it. I came all the way here, and it ended up not being worth it.

I ordered the cereal prawn, but I was served a different dish instead. At the time, I didn’t realize the mistake, but after getting home and reviewing the menu and pictures, I discovered that the dish I received was not what I ordered. I paid $18, yet what I received was just a single prawn, which seemed more like a $5–10 item. This left me very disappointed, as it was not worth the price and not the dish I intended to order.

Had BBQ Stingray, Chili Crab, and Mantou buns. Wow! Everything was very delicious and fresh. The stingray was so tender and juicy. The Chili Crab was super reasonably priced and some of the best you can get. Service was great; the uncle even offered to fetch me a beer. Left so happy and satisfied. Don't think twice, order here!

[2023-04-01, $13] Still the undeniable king. Flavourful, oniony sambal. Soft, fresh stingray. Fantastic char. Easily won a head-to-head with Stall 31. [2022-08-30, $16/pax] Best stingray I've had, piping hot and spicy and rich. The sambal sotong was nice, and baby kai lan was okay.

Came after seeing good reviews, and it turns out this stall is the very same one we patronised frequently years ago; we just didn't take note of the stall number. It's the same chef, and the dishes he whipped up were delicious. We loved it then, and we still love it now. Recommended.

Great meal with some local favourites. I never knew the popularity of this particular stall, and it's away from the madness of Newton Food Centre. Located closer to the parking lot, stall no. 19 serves all the local seafood delights. We ordered a sambal stingray, cereal prawns, and some fried mantou. All of it was served hot and fresh. The prawns were chunky and crispy, while the sambal stingray was oozing with flavour. Mop up the sauces with the hot mantous, and you are in food heaven. It cost us S$44 for the entire meal, and it was well worth it.

This place has the best Sambal Stingray in Singapore. The sambal sotong is amazing too. Recently tried their Baby Sotong and was blown away by the flavors and super crispiness. It also has that smoky wok hei flavor. They are located near the toilets and facing the car park. I've been to this stall more than 10 years ago when they were located within the inner section of the hawker centre. There used to be a rocker-style dude with a bandana who served and took orders for them, if anyone remembers. After the renovation, they somehow got pushed to the outer parameters. It's really sad that not many people know about this stall, but they are really friendly and the seafood is amazing.
