Hai Kee Seafood operates at Newton Food Centre, located at 500 Clemenceau Avenue North, #01-78, positioning itself as a supplier of Singaporean seafood dishes at this legendary hawker center. The stall's Instagram account (@haikeeseafoodnewton) claims the business has been "serving Singaporean cuisine for more than 30 years at an affordable price," suggesting deep roots in Singapore's hawker culture.
The stall has become particularly known for BBQ Prawn, which appears as its signature dish across various listings. Operating at one of Singapore's most famous food centers, Hai Kee benefits from Newton's reputation as a must-visit destination for both locals and tourists seeking authentic hawker-style seafood in an outdoor, open-air setting.
Multiple sources describe Hai Kee Seafood as offering "great Singaporean and seafood dishes at unbelievably affordable rates," positioning it as a value-conscious option within Newton Food Centre where prices can sometimes climb higher than typical neighborhood hawker stalls. This affordability combined with quality execution has contributed to its longevity.
However, similar to other Newton stalls, Hai Kee Seafood faces conflicting information regarding its halal certification status. Several sources including Halal Tag Singapore, Asia Halal Directory, and the stall's own Instagram account list it as "Halal-Certified." HalalTrip describes it as a "Muslim friendly restaurant."
In direct contradiction, the Newton Food Centre website explicitly states: "No, this stall is not halal-certified, as it serves pork." This creates significant uncertainty about the current halal status.
This conflicting information could stem from several possibilities: different stalls with similar names at Newton, changes in certification status over time, or errors in directory listings. The mention of pork service in one source versus halal certification in others represents an irreconcilable contradiction.
Muslim diners are strongly urged to verify the halal certificate directly at the stall before ordering and to confirm the certification status with MUIS to ensure compliance with dietary requirements.

The food was good, but the staff engaged in unscrupulous practices.
Initially, we were served a crab that we didn't order, and we returned it.
After a while, a lady tried to convince us to order crab and offered a discount. When we agreed, she gave us the same crab that was mistakenly served earlier. They only heated it up.
Other dishes were good, but the crab wasn't great in the end. It felt like we were scammed.

Tasteless food. Disappointing salted fish fried rice. Surprisingly, there were carrots and mushrooms but no taste. The sambal for the stingray was not nice. Service is good as usual. At Newtown, all of them want your business.

Dishonest hawker who charged more than listed on the price list. Crab of all flavours was listed at $40/$45. I asked for the exact price and was quoted $45. However, I was charged $48 when the dish arrived.

My family has patronised this stall for better part of two decades. It's always good, and the pepper crab never disappoints.

Black pepper crab was fantastic, easily winning in a head-to-head with Stall 31. The black pepper sauce itself is made with whole peppercorns and is a lot more flavourful. The crab itself was nice, but not quite as meltingly soft as Stall 31's. Overall, it's still the clear winner.
