I've been eating here for over 20 years, but my visit today was quite disappointing. Although the soup base is still good, the meat was anything but satisfactory! I asked for leaner meat, but what I received was less than 50% meat; the rest, you can see for yourself in the attached picture. It has never been like this before, and despite the higher prices now, it's difficult to get a decent bowl of mutton soup from them!

I'm new to the world of mutton soup, so I'll share my honest thoughts. This broth felt a bit stronger than a typical Mee Soto broth. Because of that, I found it somewhat disappointing. I'm not sure if this is how good mutton soup is supposed to taste. However, at $7 for a small portion (you can choose meat, tongue, or rib), the description felt overly decadent compared to the actual offering. The soup itself was nice, and I enjoyed the broth paired with the bread ($1). But it didn't quite hit the mark for me. Overall, without any subsidies (I don't think this place accepts them), I feel it would require a very deliberate effort to come here. Personally, I won't be returning. Portion-wise, it's okay, leaning slightly towards being small.

Had the mutton brain soup for $7. The brain was a tad too firm for my liking (usually the good ones are firm on the outside and soft on the inside). The soup was okay but didn't pack enough of a punch for me. Overall, a passable sup kambing.

Came here for lunch and ordered two plates of plain meat. The meat was incredibly tender, and the soup was aromatic with just the right level of spiciness — absolutely delicious! It was so good I ended up ordering another plate. Parking was convenient as there’s an open HDB carpark nearby. Overall, a great experience. 10/10 would recommend!

Haji M. Abdul Rajak's Soup Kambing is a must-try, especially for my husband! He loves how incredibly tender the meat is. A medium soup costs a fair $11. While he thoroughly enjoys the rich flavor, I personally prefer my soup a bit spicier, but that's just a matter of taste. This spot is great for a satisfying and flavorful bowl of mutton soup.

Ordered the medium size with meat at $11. I prefer richer soup; this one was quite diluted for my liking. Thought the bread could have been fresher. This is just my opinion. Anyway, always support hawkers.

If you’re craving traditional, soul-warming Sup Kambing, Haji M. Abdul Rajak’s stall is a must-visit. The broth is rich, fragrant, and deeply spiced—clearly slow-cooked to perfection with tender chunks of mutton that fall off the bone. Each bowl is hearty and satisfying, with just the right balance of gamey flavor and herbal warmth. The stall has maintained its old-school charm and consistently draws a loyal crowd, especially during rainy evenings. Pair the soup with some crusty bread or rice, and you’re in for a comforting, nostalgic meal. Service is quick and friendly, even when busy. Definitely one of the best spots in Singapore for authentic Malay-style mutton soup.

The authentic flavors of the soup kambing at East Area are the best. It's in hidden neighbourhoods. Adding the bread, one plate each is not enough. The price is also reasonable for the different types of protein.
