The bread was crispy and fresh. The kacang pool was nice with the egg, but it was overly salty on the day I tried it. I couldn't quite taste the spices because of that. It makes for an okay breakfast, but I was a bit disappointed.

Seller not sincere. Gave an overdue French loaf for takeaway. I threw the bread away. I wish you could throw it at his face. Haha. Just wait for it.

On 23rd Aug 2023, I bought two packets of Kacang Pool from this stall and tried it. The taste was horrible and the texture was watery. I was very disappointed with the Kacang Pool served by this stall. I will never patronise this stall again.

There's a perpetual queue here, and it's not hard to see why. This establishment has a rich history dating back to 1952, and they are certainly the experts when it comes to the local version of this Egyptian breakfast dish, more commonly known as Foul Medames. The dish may be simple – stewed fava beans in a tomato broth adorned with diced onions and a sunny-side up egg – but sometimes the simplest foods taste the best. Mustafa offers a single ($3.50) or double ($4.50) egg version, and both are served with a portion of French loaf on the side, which you can dip and enjoy.

Wow…just wow!! Chanced upon this hawker in search for breakfast and have been coming back every single morning since. The kacang pool is absolute perfection, and Mustafa is such a warm and friendly hawker! It’s incredible that he’s been running the stall for 30 (!) years, having taken over from his father who first started the business in 1952. Now, Mustafa’s own sons help run the stall on the weekends. It’s a real fixture of the market that draws a crowd of regulars, and it’s easy to see why. For us, Mustafa’s kachang pool will forever be a must when visiting Singapore ❤️ P.S. We stopped by the Geylang Serai Heritage Gallery just across the road, and imagine our surprise when we discovered Mustafa’s stall featured among the hawker stories as part of the exhibit! Some of the hawkers at Geylang Serai have known each other for decades, keeping alive the sense of community that persists since the neighborhood was a simple kampong. We felt so privileged to be welcomed and to experience this precious heritage.

This is an underrated, lesser-known dish that makes for a hearty meal. Dip your crispy French loaf into a bean stew flavored with onions, pepper, and egg, and slurp it all up.
