Old Chang Kee has been Singapore's legendary curry puff destination since 1956, when it began as a humble stall in a coffee shop near Rex Cinema on Mackenzie Road, earning the nickname "Rex Curry Puff." Under the visionary leadership of Mr. Han Keen Juan, who acquired the business in 1986, Old Chang Kee transformed from a small corner stall into Singapore's most recognized snack chain, officially receiving halal certification from MUIS on January 7, 2005.
Every Old Chang Kee curry puff contains their signature blend of zesty curried potatoes, succulent bite-sized chicken chunks, and slices of boiled egg, mixed with a perfect combination of herbs and spices that has remained consistent for decades. Beyond their legendary curry puffs (rebranded as Curry'O in 2008), the menu includes Singapore chicken curry, nasi lemak, Singapore laksa, and various local snacks that celebrate Singapore's diverse culinary heritage.
With over 100 retail outlets worldwide including 80+ locations across Singapore and international presence in Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the United Kingdom, Old Chang Kee sells more than 40,000 curry puffs daily. The company has earned prestigious recognition including the SPBA Distinctive Brand Awards 2005, Singapore Brand Award Heritage Award 2005, and selection by U.S. Travel & Leisure Magazine as one of the world's 20 best fast food chains in 2012 - the only Singapore brand to receive this honor.

Visited for the much-raved-about pandan waffles, but was disappointed to find them sold out by 3pm on a Saturday. We settled for typical Old Chang Kee snacks (fish balls, gyozas, cheese hotdogs) and decided to try some of the main dishes: the satay, blue pea nasi lemak with satay, and Chickee curry chicken.
The satay was small and over-grilled, but the nasi lemak was decent, with fragrant rice and spicy chilli. The curry chicken, made without coconut milk, had a unique taste, and my family was split on whether it was a yay or nay.
Service left much to be desired. Indoor ventilation is poor, while outdoor seating was cramped, with mouldy cushions and inefficient overhead fans.
Overall, not a pleasant visit and won't be returning.

Ordering was fast but service was slow. The reason given was that there was a new staff member, which made things a bit slower. The lemon fish was bad; the fish seemed defrosted, battered, and lacked flavor. The Korean fried chicken rice was even worse. The flavor was lacking, and the chicken wasn't crispy at all. It would be much cheaper and better to just order the original fried chicken. The nasi lemak was average, though the fried chicken skin was alright.

This is one of the rare Old Chang Kee outlets where you can actually sit down for a proper meal — most of their locations are just small stalls for takeaway only.
However, the fried skewers offered here are usually sold out by afternoon or evening time, as shown in the picture. So customers coming specifically for the signature stall-style fried snacks are bound to be quite disappointed!
This outlet also offers local specialties like laksa and curry noodles, but these dishes are all spicy — which may not be ideal for those who are not fond of spicy food.
Considering this is inside the zoo, where prices are typically 2 to 3 times higher than outside, this shop is relatively reasonable. Customers don’t have to worry about being overcharged — after all, even their street-side pricing isn't exactly cheap. For example, chicken wings that usually cost $1.50–$2 at regular coffee shops go for $2.70 here.
Each table at this outlet clearly states that outside food and drinks are not allowed. So if you’re a tired visitor just looking for a place to rest, you’ll need to make a purchase. Luckily, there’s no minimum spending requirement.
I’d like to give it a 3.5 rating if available.

Absolutely appalled by the experience my wife and I had today. We arrived at 7:00 PM sharp, well within the stated business hours of 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM, only to be flatly turned away because the kitchen was already closed. No apologies, no explanation — just a cold “We’re closed” as if we were the ones who had done something wrong. I’ve worked in F&B before. I understand prep time and winding down, but closing the kitchen a full hour before closing time without any notice or signage? That's not just unprofessional — it's deceptive. It shows a complete lack of regard for customers who take the time to come down expecting service. If the kitchen closes at 7, say so clearly. Don’t pretend to operate till 8 PM and then dismiss people as if their time doesn’t matter. We drove out of our way to support this place, only to be met with indifference and a refusal of service during posted hours. We left hungry, frustrated, and deeply disappointed. Frankly, 1 star is far too generous. If I could leave zero, I would. This experience was not just inconvenient — it was downright disrespectful. I sincerely hope the management sees this, acknowledges the failure, and takes action — because right now, you’ve lost two customers for good unless something is done to make this right.

Offers a variety of snacks and local food. The snack options are a bit limited compared to regular outlets. The curry puff was delicious. I wanted to try the Pandan waffle, but they didn't have enough batter left to make one.

This is the busiest outlet for breakfast, I reckon. I always come here for breakfast. The choices are limited, but it's good enough to start the day before visiting the bird paradise or other parts of the Mandai zoo.
The crew here is trying their best to manage the outlet. I just hope the management will provide one more headcount during weekends. They don't have enough time to take orders and clean the tables. Kudos to the male cashier whom I always meet; he's a super multitasker and deserves a pay raise.

A really pleasant place that is reasonably priced, just outside Bird Paradise within the Mandai Wildlife Reserve. We loved that they have baby chairs and kids' cutlery available, although I'm not sure if having the kids' cutlery lying exposed is the cleanest way to present it. Nevertheless, our family, including our toddler, had a good time here tonight after visiting Bird Paradise. We adults enjoyed the dry laksa and nasi lemak. The place was also quite clean. Please note that last order is at 7pm and they close by 8pm, which is all fine since Bird Paradise closes at 6pm. Thank you!

Good variety of local food and some Western/Japanese style options for kids.
There are some interesting dishes like mint curry and dry curry. They tasted okay but were a bit too spicy for my personal liking.
The mee siam gravy was both sour and spicy; it wasn't bad.
The teriyaki portion was a little smaller than expected but tasted okay, and my girls finished everything.
Air-conditioned and casual, with a cheerful atmosphere. We liked the interior and concept.
The service staff was friendly and polite too.
Overall, a good experience.

What's to improve?
The kopi is not hot enough. The cleanliness of the floor needs attention.
