The Original Vadai stands as Singapore's pioneering halal-certified vadai specialist, proudly carrying the distinction of being the first vadai stall in Singapore to achieve MUIS halal certification since establishing their unique concept in 1989. With multiple strategic locations including Aljunied MRT Station, Amoy Street Food Centre, Anchorvale Village, Joo Chiat Shophouses, Northpoint City, and the prestigious Jewel Changi Airport, The Original Vadai has created an accessible network that introduces both locals and international visitors to the authentic South Indian snack culture that defines Singapore's diverse street food heritage. Their commitment to halal certification ensures that these traditional Indian snacks remain inclusive to Singapore's multicultural community, while their dedication to maintaining authentic preparation methods preserves the cultural significance of vadai as both comfort food and cultural bridge between traditional Indian cuisine and contemporary Singaporean snacking preferences.

The signature menu at The Original Vadai showcases their mastery of traditional vadai-making techniques, featuring their legendary Prawn Vadai topped with crispy prawns that create the perfect balance of light, fluffy texture and rich umami flavors that have attracted devoted followings and long queues across all their locations. Their diverse selection includes the popular Ikan Bilis Vadai featuring aromatic dried anchovies, Grago Vadai with unique local adaptations, traditional Chilli Vadai for spice enthusiasts, and innovative modern interpretations like Cheese Vadai and even Chocolate Vadai that demonstrate their willingness to evolve traditional recipes while maintaining authentic preparation standards. Each vadai is prepared fresh throughout their daily 10 AM to 10 PM operating hours, creating the distinctive aromas that attract customers from considerable distances and the signature long queues that have become synonymous with quality vadai experiences in Singapore.

The Original Vadai's remarkable success stems from their unwavering commitment to quality consistency across all locations, ensuring that whether customers visit their Amoy Street heritage location or their modern Jewel Changi Airport outlet, they receive the same exceptional vadai experience that has defined the brand for over three decades. Their ability to maintain traditional South Indian snack culture while adapting to contemporary retail environments—from traditional food centers to modern shopping complexes—demonstrates their sophisticated understanding of cultural preservation versus commercial accessibility. The brand's role as cultural ambassador, introducing traditional Indian snacks to Singapore's diverse population while maintaining halal standards that serve the broadest possible community, positions them as both heritage preservationists and inclusive food innovators who ensure that authentic vadai culture continues to thrive in Singapore's evolving culinary landscape for future generations.

All along buying their vadai at least 10 in Beach Road hawker. The chilli get lesser and lesser. Now

I've been buying your vadai at Beach Road hawker for at least 10 years. The amount of chilli has been getting less and less. Now it's just one vadai with one chilli only! Kudos to your way of doing business. It's no wonder there are no more queues. And may all your chillies rot before they are sold.

I noticed the size of the vadai here is smaller than at their other vadai stall, although it's the same price. This particular stall fries too many vadai at once and they keep selling the cold ones first, despite me asking for a fresh one. Vadai is best eaten while it's hot so as not to lose its crispiness. The cold one I had was oily and not crispy at all. I will avoid this stall; no wonder there's no crowd compared to the Golden Mile Market stall.

It would have tasted better if it was freshly fried and served on the spot.

This outlet is not good. The vadais were cold and oily. There were 8 chillis for 10 vadais, and a few chillis were rotten. The staff fried everything at the same time and packed up the kitchen, eager to go home. Beach Road Vadai would re-fry the vadais if they were cold.

This shop has such a negative attitude; I will definitely not buy from them and advise others similarly. I saw they had newly opened and wanted to try. I asked to buy one vadai, thinking if it was good, I'd get more. I was so shocked when the auntie rudely told me off, saying they don't sell just one. The minimum is two pieces. I replied, 'Never mind,' and hurriedly walked away...

The vadai is on the oilier side, but it's one of the most fragrant I've ever had in SG. This chain is very popular with several outlets around Singapore, and sometimes they join other food fairs as well.

Decided to support the hawkers at Amoy (CBD) and chanced upon Original Vadai. Bought a couple of prawn and ikan bilis vadai for ourselves and some extras for our neighbours. After offloading all my takeaways, we decided to eat a vadai in the car and it was out of this world. I put my mask back on and went back to the stall to buy more.

A very nice local snack with a wide variety of fillings. One of my favourites is the prawn vadai, which goes well with a fresh green chilli. All the vadai is freshly made at the stall daily. It still tastes good even after it has cooled down.

Vadai, or vada, is available in all shapes and sizes. We can find them sold in restaurants as well as in tiny operations run in food courts. They are best enjoyed with fresh chilli, especially in the humid monsoon season.
