Aljunied MRT Station (EW9) is an elevated station on the East West Line, situated along Aljunied Road near the junction with Sims Avenue in the Geylang district. Opening on 4 November 1989 as part of the eastern line extension to Tanah Merah, this station was first announced in May 1982 as part of Phase II of the MRT system development. The station features the characteristic domed roof design found along the eastern portion of the East West Line, with an island platform configuration typical of the initial MRT network. Operating under SMRT Trains management, Aljunied station is equipped with modern safety features including half-height platform screen doors that were installed and became operational in August 2011. The station offers wheelchair accessibility at most areas and provides bicycle parking facilities for commuters. Serving the Aljunied subzone of Geylang, the station has two exits that provide convenient access to several community landmarks and facilities. These include Geylang Methodist Primary and Secondary School, Geylang East Public Library, and Victoria Centre, making it a key transit point for students, residents, and visitors to the area. The station location within the vibrant Geylang district places it in close proximity to diverse residential estates and local amenities, whilst its position between Paya Lebar and Kallang stations ensures excellent connectivity along the East West Line.
