Halal Food in Tekka Place (formerly The Verge)
Tekka Place rose on the site of The Verge mall (formerly Tekka Mall) in the heart of Little India, opening its doors in March 2020 as a modern interpretation of the precinct's retail landscape. The previous mall operated from 2003 until its demolition in 2017, having been rebranded from Tekka Mall to The Verge in 2008 with a focus on IT, lifestyle and F&B. The new development brings contemporary style to this culturally rich neighbourhood, located conveniently near Little India and Rochor MRT stations. The complex comprises a 10-storey main block and a seven-storey annex block topped with a rooftop deck, with Citadines Rochor occupying the upper floors as a 320-unit serviced residence offering studio and one-bedroom apartments. The retail component spans 70,000 square feet across the basement and first two floors of the main block, housing approximately 80 shops. Five levels of parking ensure drivers have ample space, addressing a common pain point in the dense Little India area. Tekka Place aims to blend modern retail with Singapore's Indian heritage, creating a shopping environment that respects the cultural character of its location. The mall complements the iconic Tekka Centre wet market nearby, offering air-conditioned retail and dining options to shoppers who might visit both destinations. The integration of serviced apartments above the retail floors brings residential density that supports the ground-level businesses. Designed by ONG&ONG, the development represents the evolution of Little India's retail scene from traditional shophouses to contemporary mixed-use complexes.
