White Sands holds the distinction of being the first major shopping mall in Pasir Ris, developed by OCBC Properties Pte Ltd at a cost of SGD 130 million. Located at 1 Pasir Ris Central Street 3 near Pasir Ris MRT station and Pasir Ris Bus Interchange, this five-storey mall underwent significant renovations in 2014 and reopened in May 2016 with a refreshed tenant mix, redesigned interior layout, and an enhanced blue facade. The mall's main tenants reflect its role as a community-focused shopping destination, anchored by NTUC FairPrice supermarket, McDonald's, Cookhouse by Koufu food court, Pasir Ris Public Library, and Popular Bookstore. The retail mix caters to daily needs and family activities, with two additional basement levels dedicated to car parking for shopper convenience. Operating daily from 10am to 10pm, White Sands provides accessible shopping and dining options for residents in the eastern region. An interesting characteristic of White Sands is its role as a regular gathering spot for conscripted soldiers, owing to its proximity to Pasir Ris Bus Interchange where servicemen are dropped off from army camps on Pulau Tekong. This has made the mall a familiar landmark for Singapore's national servicemen. The 2016 renovation successfully modernized the shopping environment while maintaining its practical focus on serving neighbourhood needs, cementing White Sands' position as Pasir Ris's primary retail destination.
