Kumoya made history as Singapore's first halal-certified Japanese-French inspired café when it opened at 8 Jalan Klapa, near Lavender MRT Station. The establishment pioneered a unique fusion concept that married Japanese precision with French pâtisserie techniques, creating an entirely new category of halal dining that particularly appealed to Instagram-savvy food enthusiasts and families seeking photogenic desserts.

The café's signature offerings centred on hand-crafted petite éclairs in vibrant flavours like matcha, sakura, yuzu, and café au lait, alongside light and fluffy soufflé pancakes that became social media sensations. The all-white interior design created the perfect backdrop for food photography, while the menu expanded beyond desserts to include savoury Japanese-French fusion dishes featuring onsen tamago (hot spring eggs), tempura soft-shell crab, and chicken karaage paired with pancakes.

Kumoya also became known for hosting popular character café collaborations, including Cinnamoroll Café featuring kawaii-themed mains, desserts and drinks, as well as collaborations with We Bare Bears and Tokidoki. These limited-time pop-ups drew crowds of fans eager to experience themed dining in a halal-certified environment.

Unfortunately, Kumoya permanently closed its doors on January 20, 2025, ending its pioneering run in Singapore's halal Japanese-French café scene. During its operation, it successfully demonstrated that halal-certified establishments could compete in the Instagram-worthy dessert café market.
