Modern Grill Seafood operates from Newton Food Centre, one of Singapore's most iconic hawker centres known for its concentration of seafood stalls. Located at 500 Clemenceau Avenue North, this halal-certified establishment brings grilled seafood to Muslim diners and anyone seeking quality halal options in the popular food destination.
The stall specialises in grilled seafood preparations, moving away from the typical fried or curry-based cooking methods common at hawker centres. By focusing on grilling, the kitchen allows the natural flavours of fresh seafood to shine through while adding smoky char and seasoning that enhances rather than masks the ingredients. This approach appeals to health-conscious diners and those who prefer cleaner, less oily preparations.
Newton Food Centre's reputation as a seafood hub means competition is fierce, pushing stalls to maintain quality and freshness. Modern Grill Seafood's halal certification sets it apart in this environment, making it accessible to the Muslim community who might otherwise have limited options at seafood-focused hawker centres. The certification process requires adherence to strict sourcing and preparation standards, providing assurance to customers about ingredient quality and handling.
The location at Newton Food Centre, near Novena and within easy reach of Orchard Road, attracts both locals and tourists. The open-air hawker setting provides the authentic Singapore dining experience - casual seating, bustling atmosphere, and honest prices. For those seeking halal grilled seafood in a central location with the vibrant energy of a traditional hawker centre, Modern Grill Seafood offers a reliable option.

The chilli crab tasted like instant sauce you buy from the supermarket. The same goes for the black pepper squid. The kangkong was nice but very oily!

Very slow service! Average taste. After multiple chases, I was just served fried rice, and the chicken took another 15 minutes to deliver. I prefer not to go back again.

Was supposed to go to my usual BBQ stingray stall, but they were closed. Decided to try this place instead. The service is alright; the uncle is nice and patient, but the food isn't the best I've had here. It's a stall you likely won't miss seeing, and the uncle often has red hair. The sambal BBQ stingray was good, but not great. The sambal lala was also good, but not great. The stir-fried Kailan was somehow lacking something too... Just a good experience, less the food I guess.

We tried the Chilli crab, Fried special chicken, and fried rice. I have been here twice in 2025 (in two different months). I would definitely recommend the fried rice and fried chicken. The chicken quantity is good, and it's cooked to perfection: crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The grandma and her son are very hospitable and kind.
