I had steam chicken with brown rice. Service-wise, the workers were good; they were friendly. However, the boss was not. The boss, a Chinese owner who employs Muslim workers, unfortunately only speaks Mandarin. When I tried to communicate with her, she wasn't very friendly and had a stuck-up expression. The business has been around for about 5 years. Okay, back to the food – there's no standard at all. The brown rice was mushy, and the steam chicken was tasteless with no marination. Even though they served a big portion of the chicken, it was really tasteless. Their chilli sauce didn't match the steam chicken at all. My conclusion is to go and buy steam chicken rice from a Chinese stall; it's much better than eating steam chicken from this stall. For ayam penyek, I dared not try it after tasting the steam chicken, which lacked any flavour in the meat. Marination is very important for good chicken flavour. This is my own opinion, so for this, I'm only giving 1 star ⭐.

Errrrm.....I think no, you shouldn’t visit The chicken is fine. Not particularly flavourful but nothing wrong either. Uncle Penyet’s style of Ayam Penyet has curry on the rice, and I’m not sure if it works out well. The curry is quite lemak and adds to the already jelak dish. The sambal is disappointing. It doesn’t have the kick of authentic Surabaya Ayam Penyets. On top of that, it doesn’t go quite well with the dish. It has an overpoweringly tangy taste that made it less enjoyable. If you’re craving for Ayam Penyet, I don’t think this is the stall for you. You might leave feeling disappointed from not being able to scratch that itch. Did I mention it’s $6 per portion??

The service is getting bad as they are becoming arrogant and calculative now that business has become very good. Without the sambal and curry sauce, the ayam penyet is dry and doesn’t taste as good. However, they are beginning to give smaller chiller containers (and only half filled!) and they charge $0.50 for any additional measly amount of chilli! So my friends and I have stopped patronizing the shop as we are shocked at their exorbitant charges for the small and pathetic amount of additional chilli and curry sauce. It’s hard to enjoy ayam penyet without a fair amount of sambal and curry sauce, as otherwise it is dry and hard to eat.

Mediocre portions for an expensive meal. I haven't been here for a while but decided to grab my favourite sotong dish. Unfortunately, it was for takeaway and upon returning home, I was appalled by the portion of my squid. Just take a look at the pic with a fork for scale. Taste-wise, it's still great, but it seems they've swapped out chicken rice for normal white rice, which is another disappointment. Anyway, just be wary of the portions, and it clearly looks like their standards have dropped tremendously. They just lost themselves a customer.

My go-to stall at the hawker centre for delicious and very reasonably priced rice sets. I usually get the steamed chicken with brown rice. Big portions for only $5.90. The service staff are friendly and prompt with orders, even giving extras like chilli with a smile. Highly recommended!

Surprisingly good! The chicken is juicy and the tofu is well-fried too. Not dry at all. I can see myself ordering from them more often. But the chili really packs a punch!

One of the best Ayam Penyet I have ever had. The chicken is crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Paired with rice and curry sauce, it makes the whole dish very satisfying. The sambal belacan is spicy, which makes the chicken taste even better. The staff are friendly and helpful. Worth queuing/travelling to eat: Yes
