Uncle Penyet brings authentic Indonesian ayam penyet cuisine to Singapore through traditional preparation methods and halal-certified cooking processes. This specialized restaurant focuses on delivering genuine Indonesian flavors through expertly prepared fried chicken served with traditional sambal and fresh accompaniments.
The signature ayam penyet features carefully marinated chicken that is fried to achieve perfect crispiness before being 'penyet' (smashed) and served with aromatic sambal. This traditional Indonesian preparation method creates unique textures and allows optimal flavor absorption from the accompanying spices and sauces.
The restaurant comprehensive Indonesian menu includes various ayam penyet preparations, traditional rice dishes, and authentic side accompaniments that provide complete Indonesian dining experiences. Each dish showcases traditional spice blends, cooking techniques, and presentation styles that honor Indonesian culinary heritage.
Traditional sambal preparation uses fresh chilies, aromatic herbs, and traditional grinding techniques to create authentic flavor profiles. The restaurant commitment to authenticity ensures every component meets traditional preparation standards while maintaining halal certification requirements.
Operating in a casual dining environment, Uncle Penyet provides accessible Indonesian cuisine for families and individuals seeking genuine ayam penyet experiences. The combination of traditional flavors, quality ingredients, and skilled preparation makes this an ideal destination for Indonesian food enthusiasts.

I had steam chicken with brown rice. Service-wise, the workers were good; they were friendly. However, the boss was not. The boss, a Chinese owner who employs Muslim workers, unfortunately only speaks Mandarin. When I tried to communicate with her, she wasn't very friendly and had a stuck-up expression.
The business has been around for about 5 years.
Okay, back to the food – there's no standard at all. The brown rice was mushy, and the steam chicken was tasteless with no marination. Even though they served a big portion of the chicken, it was really tasteless. Their chilli sauce didn't match the steam chicken at all.
My conclusion is to go and buy steam chicken rice from a Chinese stall; it's much better than eating steam chicken from this stall.
For ayam penyek, I dared not try it after tasting the steam chicken, which lacked any flavour in the meat. Marination is very important for good chicken flavour.
This is my own opinion, so for this, I'm only giving 1 star ⭐.

The crispy wings were very flavourful and juicy! However, the photo from Grab delivery was very misleading. Perhaps vegetables shouldn't be included in the picture when there are actually none!

Used to love uncle penyet coz their sambal damn power.. super spicy yet it makes you want more! Will
I used to love Uncle Penyet because their sambal was incredibly potent. Super spicy, yet it made you crave more! I was even willing to pay for an extra packet of sambal. However, nowadays the sambal tastes like regular sambal belachan – it lacks spiciness. The sambal also now comes in smaller packaging. It's sad that I have to stop ordering from my favorite shop. I guess this is the end for us...

The chicken is fine. Not particularly flavourful but nothing wrong either. Uncle Penyet’s style of Ayam Penyet has curry on the rice, and I’m not sure if it works out well. The curry is quite lemak and adds to the already jelak dish.
The sambal is disappointing. It doesn’t have the kick of authentic Surabaya Ayam Penyets. On top of that, it doesn’t go quite well with the dish. It has an overpoweringly tangy taste that made it less enjoyable.
If you’re craving for Ayam Penyet, I don’t think this is the stall for you. You might leave feeling disappointed from not being able to scratch that itch. Did I mention it’s $6 per portion??

I had a takeaway. The meal comprised of grilled chicken, cherry tomatoes, lettuce, rice, and sauces. The chicken was marinated and grilled well, and it tasted good too. The curry and sambal sauce were neatly packed in small containers. It wasn’t too spicy, which I liked. The only grouse is the rice portion; they could have been a little more generous. Even though I’m a light eater, I still found it not substantial enough.

Whenever I'm craving Ayam penyet and too lazy to head out, this is my go-to for food delivery. It usually arrives still warm/hot, and they pack it well (the curry is separated by default so the rice doesn't get soggy). We usually add on extra curry (which is very good), keropok, and golden crumbs.

Great ayam penyet and grilled chicken, though I would love it if the chilli could be more generous and spicier.

One of the best stalls serving Ayam Penyet and other food. It costs $6.80 for a serving of Ayam Penyet with rice, bean curd, vegetables, and cherry tomatoes. The piece of chicken is a drumstick with thigh, and it comes with curry and sambal. Very nice.
