A&W Restaurants has made a successful comeback to Singapore's fast-food scene with its halal-certified outlets, bringing the iconic American brand to Muslim diners across the island. The Woodlands Avenue 6 location, specifically at 677 Woodlands Avenue 6, represents part of A&W's strategic expansion in Singapore, operating alongside other outlets including one at Admiralty Place. The return of A&W to Singapore has been met with enthusiasm from both nostalgic customers who remember the brand from its previous incarnation and new customers discovering its classic American fast-food offerings for the first time.
The menu at A&W Singapore features the brand's classic American favorites, all prepared according to strict halal standards to cater to Singapore's Muslim population. Signature items include the famous Root Beer Float served in a frosty mug with vanilla ice cream, the Mozza Burger with two beef patties and mozzarella cheese, and the Cream Cheese Chicken Burger. The restaurant also offers crispy fried chicken, Coney Dogs, and sides like Curly Fries and Onion Rings. What makes A&W particularly special is its fresh, made-to-order Root Beer, which provides a unique taste experience that sets it apart from other fast-food chains in Singapore.
The restaurant's commitment to halal certification, combined with its classic American menu and efficient service, has made it a popular destination for families and fast-food enthusiasts seeking halal options. The Woodlands outlet operates daily from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM, providing convenient access to quality halal American fast food in Singapore's northern region. With its modern kiosk-based ordering system and focus on maintaining good queue management, A&W has successfully adapted to contemporary fast-food trends while preserving the nostalgic appeal that made the brand beloved in the first place, making it a significant addition to Singapore's diverse halal dining landscape.

The food was not nice. The curly fries were too salty and the root beer was too bland. There was nothing special about the coney dog and mozzarella burger. When I was almost finished with my root beer, I noticed something at the bottom of my glass. I hope it wasn't cockroach droppings...

Maybe it's me, but I found the coney dog sauce quite different from A&W Malaysia. It tasted a bit light or watered down, which was strange! The root beer float was fine, though, and the onion rings were great. Another minus was the long wait and queue time. They may need to implement other forms of ordering, like self-order kiosks (similar to McDonald's and Burger King), to speed things up, as it is fast food after all.

It's been a long time since I had A&W. For sure, the burgers have shrunk (similar to all other burger places), but it was still a good experience. I can't quite understand their outlet design and customer process, though.

My husband and I visit them whenever we crave root beer and chicken. The food is nice and the outlet is clean. There are ample seats available at night and the queue is short. Our favourites are the beef fries and fried chicken.
I was here last night and noticed that they now require all guests to be present before we are allowed to order our food and get a table. Some others behind me also faced a similar issue, which is a waste of our time and causes frustration, as we would have preferred to order and take a seat first while waiting for our friend/group. Even though I told them my husband was reaching, they did not allow me to order first.
I hope A&W can reverse this rule as it should not apply to fast food restaurants and causes unhappiness to customers, especially if someone in our group is late.

Ordered: Fish burger combo with curly fries and root beer at $8.90. Service: The waitress at the ordering counter was polite, but the waiter at the collection counter was plainly curt/rude. For the burger, the fish patty was rather small compared to the bun size. The fries were thin, not hot, and probably overfried. The root beer foam disappeared the moment I sat down at the table. It tasted too sweet and had hardly any soda bubbles. Overall, it's not value for money compared to McDonald's or Burger King value meals.

I had been craving their chicken for quite some time. It's usually crowded at other outlets, but there was no queue here when I visited for a snack around 5 pm.
I like their fried chicken; it was crispy even though it had a thin flour coating. Their root beer was so refreshing. It came without ice, and the glass was cold. It was nice. Only curly fries were available on the menu. They were okay, not that crispy, but still good.
Collection of orders was a bit scattered. I collected my drink straight away near the counter, waffles behind the counter, and food outside the eating area at their food collection counter. Condiments were located in another area as well. I was given two beepers for one order, one for the waffles and one for the food.

Update: 11/10/20 - Staff were very friendly, and food was still served promptly. There was just a longer wait due to fewer tables available. Fast and prompt service on a weekday evening; we received all our food within 15 minutes. However, the hot fudge definitely needs a brand change as the chocolate sauce isn't that nice.

Finally got a chance to try as they are closing, no queue.
Ordered the recommended burger set.

Finally got a chance to try as they were closing, so there was no queue. Ordered the recommended burger set. Overall, the taste was better than I expected – fresh and nice. Loved the icy frosted root beer; one wasn't enough! The biggest disappointment was the curly fries. They didn't look anything like what was shown.

It has been a decade since I last had a meal at A&W. I used to have it during my younger schooling days when it first came to Singapore (it was the first fast food restaurant then). Over time, it closed down, so it's good to see it's back again. During its absence, I only had a meal in Batam.
It was a weekend and the restaurant was quite crowded, but we managed to get a table.
We ordered the chicken burger, fried chicken with fries, waffles with ice cream, and of course, the root beer float. I must say that the food was nice and well prepared. The meat was tender and juicy. And the root beer float, a must-have, was heavenly.
Waffles were nice! Great to have on such warm days.
Staff were prompt in clearing and cleaning the tables for the next incoming diners.
Overall, I enjoyed the meal here as it brought back fond memories of the past!

People staying in Ang Mo Kio should be glad they have a branch here. Lovely, fragrant waffles with ice cream. Fresh fries. Burgers that are so classic. A root beer float on a hot day sounds good. Pretty decent seating area that is nicely spaced out. They have collection and return stations, so do your part to keep the place clean.
