Ayam Penyet Ria represents the authentic heart of Indonesian cuisine in Singapore, bringing the traditional smashed fried chicken experience to discerning diners through their family-owned establishment that has perfected this beloved dish since 1998. Founded by the visionary Ibu Ruth from Batam, this MUIS-certified halal restaurant has transformed a humble family recipe into one of Singapore most celebrated Indonesian dining destinations.

The restaurant specializes in their signature Ayam Penyet, Indonesia most popular traditional chicken dish that features farm chicken (ayam kampong) that is fried to golden perfection before being dramatically smashed with a kitchen mallet. This unique preparation technique creates tender, juicy meat with enhanced flavor penetration while making the chicken easier to eat and more enjoyable to experience.

Ayam Penyet Ria commitment to authenticity extends to their exclusive use of farm chicken, a premium ingredient that distinguishes them from other ayam penyet establishments. This dedication to quality ingredients ensures that every plate delivers the superior taste and texture that defines authentic Indonesian ayam penyet experiences.

The signature dish is accompanied by aromatic fragrant rice, fresh vegetables, fried tofu, fried tempeh, and their legendary sambal that delivers the perfect balance of spicy, sweet, and umami flavors. The sambal represents generations of Indonesian spice blending expertise, creating the fiery accompaniment that elevates the entire dining experience.

Multiple strategic locations across Singapore including Lucky Plaza, Bugis Village, NEX Mall, Jurong Point Shopping Mall, Woods Square, Rivervale Mall, and JTC Space @ Tampines North ensure accessibility for Indonesian cuisine enthusiasts throughout the island. Each outlet maintains the family traditions and quality standards that have made Ayam Penyet Ria synonymous with authentic ayam penyet.

What distinguishes Ayam Penyet Ria is their inspiring origin story, born from Ibu Ruth divine inspiration during challenging times when she dreamed of smashing fried chicken and serving it with special sambal and crispies. This innovation created instant demand from customers traveling from far distances, establishing the foundation for today internationally recognized brand.

The restaurant preparation philosophy emphasizes freshness and quality, with food prepared daily using imported high-quality ingredients that maintain authentic Indonesian flavors. Their commitment to daily preparation ensures that customers receive optimal taste and texture in every meal.

The menu pricing strategy reflects their commitment to accessibility, with classic and boneless versions available for .90-.90 including rice and traditional accompaniments. This affordable pricing makes authentic Indonesian cuisine accessible to students, families, and working professionals who appreciate quality without premium costs.

Customer recognition positions Ayam Penyet Ria as a presidential candidate for Singapore best ayam penyet, with their crispy bits and incredibly spicy sambal earning praise as some of the finest fried chicken available. This reputation attracts both Indonesian expatriates seeking authentic flavors and local food enthusiasts exploring Indonesian cuisine.

The restaurant enjoys particular popularity within Singapore Indonesian community, especially on Sundays when families gather to enjoy familiar comfort foods that remind them of home. This cultural significance demonstrates their role as more than just a restaurant, serving as a community gathering place.

Service standards emphasize the traditional Indonesian hospitality that makes every customer feel welcomed and valued. The staff understands the cultural importance of sharing meals and ensures that every dining experience honors the communal spirit that defines Indonesian food culture.

Ayam Penyet Ria continues to preserve and share authentic Indonesian culinary traditions while adapting to Singapore diverse dining landscape, establishing themselves as essential destinations for anyone seeking genuine Indonesian flavors and cultural experiences in welcoming, family-friendly environments.

All the dishes were a disappointment. The soup lacked taste and fragrance for a stew, being watered down but salty. The fish and chicken were dry as well. Unfortunately, I witnessed a chilli takeaway container fall on the floor. One staff member picked it up, while another staff member immediately poured chilli into it.

This relatively small and humble restaurant is located on level 1 of Rivervale Mall. However, the front door faces the main road, so technically it’s not inside the mall. If you’re looking to locate it, you’d be entering this restaurant from the outside. They have a pretty wide variety of food and drinks (see attached photos for the menu). My visit was to takeaway Ayam Penyet with rice. It took less than 10 minutes for my order at 12:30 pm, which is alright. The taste was very underwhelming. The chicken meat was dry, and the flavour of the fried chicken was lacking. The spicy sambal chilli was a redeeming factor, but it still couldn’t “save” the chicken. The portion of chicken was normal for me. I would expect more from a relatively big franchise chain. I wouldn’t return for this ayam penyet even if I was craving it, at least not until I see better reviews from others in the future.

I wished I had checked the reviews here first. Indeed, the food portion is small and there's no curry provided. For the hefty price you're paying, there are better ayam penyet alternatives – tastier and more filling.

Before, it was okay, but now I'm disappointed. Two years ago, I enjoyed it, especially the 'promfet bakar'. Even the chilli isn't consistent. Buckle up!

Ordered via GrabFood. Found hair stuck inside the food! The restaurant refused to accept it. The food tasted not fresh and not nice at all. Will never buy again. Moreover, it was so expensive at $8.90 for food with hair. You can definitely eat more safely at other restaurants. The delivery and food preparation were also very slow. This is the last time buying, bye.

First time dabao from Rivervale Mall. I really love the staff; they were very helpful and friendly, even when I was just dabao-ing. The portion is good compared to other places. And you get what you see from the menu. I say this because I've always been cheated at other branches; they either didn't give me tempeh or didn't give tau gua. ‍♀️ Will come here to dine in or dabao if I'm craving for ayam/fish penyet.

A Malay staff was attentive and quick once we (5 of us) came in, and arranged tables for us. Staff Marcus went the extra mile to get keropok as their keropok was sold out yesterday during the weekend. Dishes are all good and served quite fast. We enjoyed our lunch.

One of the few places open during Chinese New Year. The ayam penyet and fried fish were not bad. The satay and fried enoki mushroom were quite tasty. The avocado was so-so. Overall, it's a decent place to eat.
