Encik Tan was established in 2014 to serve the growing demand for authentic Chinese hawker fare among Muslim customers, introducing a halal-certified mini food atrium concept that delivers popular local Chinese dishes. All recipes are meticulously adapted using halal ingredients and fine-tuned to deliver the same nostalgic flavour and taste of the original dishes while maintaining full halal compliance.
The menu features beloved local favorites including Hainanese Curry Rice with options like Chicken, Chicken Drumstick, Fried Fish, Fried Prawn, and Sambal Sotong served with fragrant rice and rich curry. Additional offerings include Wanton Noodles, Fishball Noodles, Ban Mian, Laksa, and Claypot Rice, ensuring a comprehensive selection of Chinese hawker classics.
With more than 18 halal-certified outlets across Singapore, including locations at Alexandra Retail Centre, Bedok Mall, Changi Airport Terminal 3, 313@Somerset, and Compass One, Encik Tan has made authentic Chinese cuisine accessible to Muslim diners throughout the island. The restaurant's commitment to preserving traditional flavors while adapting to halal requirements has earned positive reviews for dishes like their crispy chicken cutlet with moist meat and well-seasoned curry sauce that balances spice with subtle sweetness.

A nice, air-conditioned place for a quick bite, conveniently located opposite Sheng Siong Supermarket.
If you're a noodle lover or enjoy curry rice with chicken cutlet, fried fish, fried prawn, or sambal Soto, this is the right spot for a good, hot meal.
I personally prefer their curry rice set.
On Sunday morning, 11 April 2021, I had a late breakfast here and ordered their signature noodle set no. 3 for $5.
Their serving size is quite generous.
This is a Halal-certified food stall.

Stupid queue system. You order noodles and drinks. You must collect noodles first, but they prepare the drinks and leave them there. You cannot collect the drinks first. The noodle preparation queue is so slow. By the time you get the drinks, they are already cold. Stupid management, and the staff are also another kind. They give you one look. None of them can think.

I thought I was going to get a smaller chicken chop portion during dinner time... Thank goodness the auntie was nice to me! But yes, the meat portion you get really depends on the mood of the person serving you. $5.30 for take-out chicken cutlet curry rice. I don't order anything else from here... Tea and coffee here, hmm, save your calories...

The food was subpar, along with terribly rude staff (featured in the picture) who threw my packet of claypot rice when I was collecting it. Not only that, when I asked for chilli, her response was short and offhand. This was my first time experiencing such atrocious service, and I do believe that the other staff from the other stalls are actually courteous. I hope the management can look into improving the quality of customer service.

For a quick meal, but the food is really not up to standard. The fried wantons had been left out until they were cool inside. She also forgot to add the char siew to the noodles.

Try their signature noodles; the taste was much better than expected, to be honest. I liked the quantity and the fact that they have a non-spicy version too. Service was fast as well. I will definitely come back to try their other meals.
The stall is very small if you want to dine in. I came at 2:30 pm, so there were plenty of seats available, but it might be tricky during busy hours.

I thought it would be hard to find halal food in Singapore, but I found it within walking distance (from Park Avenue Hotel). You should try the Signature Noodle; it's quite unique.

Kitty and I were looking for a good meal and decided to check out Encik Tan at Compass 1. We were intrigued by their claypot dishes, which are not commonly found at every restaurant. Encik Tan offers a variety of stalls under one roof, including a claypot stall, a fishball noodle stall, a curry rice stall, and a drinks stall. We decided to try the claypot rice and the yi mian claypot.
Even though Encik Tan is a halal establishment, their claypots looked exactly like the traditional Chinese claypots we're familiar with. We were impressed that they managed to recreate the classic claypot flavor without using pork lard or any ingredients not permitted in halal cuisine. The claypot rice, with its fragrant soy sauce, was particularly delicious. Even Kitty commented, "Wow, the claypot tastes alright, even though it's halal."
My yi mian was also enjoyable. While both the claypot rice and yi mian were flavorful, we felt there was a subtle something missing, a taste that we couldn't quite pinpoint.
The service was friendly and efficient. After we finished our meal, a friendly uncle went around to help clear our dishes. There was also a designated tray return station for convenience. The ambiance was bright and spacious, which we appreciated.
