The Original Vadai stands as Singapore's pioneering halal-certified vadai specialist, proudly carrying the distinction of being the first vadai stall in Singapore to achieve MUIS halal certification since establishing their unique concept in 1989. With multiple strategic locations including Aljunied MRT Station, Amoy Street Food Centre, Anchorvale Village, Joo Chiat Shophouses, Northpoint City, and the prestigious Jewel Changi Airport, The Original Vadai has created an accessible network that introduces both locals and international visitors to the authentic South Indian snack culture that defines Singapore's diverse street food heritage. Their commitment to halal certification ensures that these traditional Indian snacks remain inclusive to Singapore's multicultural community, while their dedication to maintaining authentic preparation methods preserves the cultural significance of vadai as both comfort food and cultural bridge between traditional Indian cuisine and contemporary Singaporean snacking preferences.

The signature menu at The Original Vadai showcases their mastery of traditional vadai-making techniques, featuring their legendary Prawn Vadai topped with crispy prawns that create the perfect balance of light, fluffy texture and rich umami flavors that have attracted devoted followings and long queues across all their locations. Their diverse selection includes the popular Ikan Bilis Vadai featuring aromatic dried anchovies, Grago Vadai with unique local adaptations, traditional Chilli Vadai for spice enthusiasts, and innovative modern interpretations like Cheese Vadai and even Chocolate Vadai that demonstrate their willingness to evolve traditional recipes while maintaining authentic preparation standards. Each vadai is prepared fresh throughout their daily 10 AM to 10 PM operating hours, creating the distinctive aromas that attract customers from considerable distances and the signature long queues that have become synonymous with quality vadai experiences in Singapore.

The Original Vadai's remarkable success stems from their unwavering commitment to quality consistency across all locations, ensuring that whether customers visit their Amoy Street heritage location or their modern Jewel Changi Airport outlet, they receive the same exceptional vadai experience that has defined the brand for over three decades. Their ability to maintain traditional South Indian snack culture while adapting to contemporary retail environments—from traditional food centers to modern shopping complexes—demonstrates their sophisticated understanding of cultural preservation versus commercial accessibility. The brand's role as cultural ambassador, introducing traditional Indian snacks to Singapore's diverse population while maintaining halal standards that serve the broadest possible community, positions them as both heritage preservationists and inclusive food innovators who ensure that authentic vadai culture continues to thrive in Singapore's evolving culinary landscape for future generations.

Donkey and I were thrilled to stumble upon The Original Vadai at the Golden Mile Hawker Centre. We'd been big fans of the Joo Chiat branch and had visited twice, loving their flavorful vadai, especially the prawn variety. Their masala and normal tea were also delicious. We were excited to try the vadai at this location and bought a box for my family. However, we were a bit disappointed. While the vadai was still good, it didn't have the same depth of flavor as the Joo Chiat vadai. It seemed to be missing something. Reading the reviews, we realized this location has a 3.7 rating compared to the Joo Chiat branch's 4+ rating. It seems the quality does vary between locations. If you want to experience the truly amazing and flavorful vadai, definitely check out the Joo Chiat branch. While the Golden Mile location is still decent, it doesn't quite measure up. I’m giving this location a 3-star rating based on our experience, as it's still a good option for a quick vadai fix. However, if you want the truly outstanding vadai, head to Joo Chiat!

Tried on a Saturday evening. It appears the shrimp vadai is always selling, so you can most probably get hot shrimp vadai anytime you walk in. They also have other items on the menu, including vegetarian vadai. The place has a queue, but it moves fast. The vadai is tasty and definitely value for money, with 1 shrimp vadai costing S$1.

The food and ethics are terrible!!! ZERO crispness. There was no queue, but they did not give us a fresh one. My son spotted they gave us one that was left outside in a bag. So it was soft, cold, and lacked freshness!! We decided to try it as we heard it is popular, but it was disappointing as it cost a ridiculous amount of $1.30 for a small piece of vadai! Don't buy!!!

This is delicious! The vadai is like a savoury shrimp donut. Oh my goodness, so good! It was fresh and hot. There was a small line, and she didn't accept a $10 bill.

Located in the basement of Golden Mile Food Centre, in the same row as the Peranakan food stall. This stall always commands a long queue during lunch hour. I was introduced to this stall by my colleague. They offer quite a variety of vadai and skewers, commonly found at pasar malams. Decided to join the queue today since it was relatively short. Bought 2 prawn vadai for SGD$1 each. They provide a couple of green chilies to go with it. The exterior of the vadai remained crispy even though I had it as takeaway. The interior was soft and well-seasoned. The prawns were crispy and tasted fresh.

Prawn Vadai with green chilli ($1.30). The dough was chewy, light, and airy, but it was a bit oily. I had this on two separate occasions, and the taste differed, being a bit inconsistent. No queue on Saturday evening!

One of the best vadais I have tasted. I had two (prawn vadai and onion vadai) at the hawker centre and was blown away. They were so soft and chewy on the inside while crispy on the outside! The onion one was better. I bought 10 more to takeaway: 8 onion and 2 veggie vadais. Super! The veggie vadai was also very nice, so I would say my favourites were the onion and veggie vadais.

The owner was extremely helpful. Knowing I'm a foreigner, they showed me the varieties they had. I ended up choosing the Shrimp Vadai. It was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, not too oily. The price was a bargain at only 1.3SGD. I totally recommend anyone wanting to try amazing Vadai in Singapore! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
