Mee Rebus (SGD $4) @ Warong Solo. Established since 1965, this humble stall has been delighting customers with their homely recipes for over 6 decades. The base consists of the standard chewy soft yellow egg noodles, crisp bean sprouts, crisp green chili, bouncy hard-boiled chicken egg, and crisp fried shallots, combined for a grainy, sweet, vegetal, eggy, savoury, and spicy flavour. Most patrons add a begedil, the spiced mashed potato patty carrying an addictive starchy, salty, savoury, earthy, sweet, and spicy flavour. The gravy is thick, smooth, and gloopy, tending towards the sweeter side from more mashed sweet potato. It has a lovely sweet, savoury, and spicy flavour.

This is the only place in Singapore that sells Laksa Siglap (some called it Laksa Chap). It’s legend

This is the only place in Singapore that sells Laksa Siglap (some call it Laksa Chap). It’s legendary for those who know about it. The laksa noodles (made of rice flour) are much thicker, almost like udon noodles, compared to other local Laksa sold islandwide. In Johore (Laksa Johor), it’s almost similar, but they use spaghetti instead. It’s the gravy (made with fish, rempah, and coconut milk) that sets it apart from other varieties of laksa sold locally. I must admit that this is one of my comfort foods.

My first taste of Siglap Laksa. Added egg as there seem to be only sauce and cucumber; tasted good.

Ordered the laksa Johor. Gravy was authentic, delicious & thick. Though there were no fishcake slice

Ordered the laksa Johor. The gravy was authentic, delicious, and thick. Although there were no fishcake slices, julienned laksa leaves and slivers of cucumber were served on top. Basically, it's SGD3.50 for a plate of laksa gravy poured over white, fat, and cylindrical rice noodles (which stuck together, making them quite unpleasant and inconvenient to eat), with no added protein or vegetable components. For that price, I think it's quite expensive for a serving plate of 'just carbohydrates'.
