I had dinner at XW Western Grill in Suntec City with my wife before heading off to meet friends at Synthesis at Suntec City mall.
We were hoping the 4.6-star Google rating would reflect our experience, but unfortunately, things didn’t live up to expectations.
We strolled in on a Saturday around 4:30 pm, only to find the restaurant nearly empty. It took around 10 minutes before we were seated—and I only spotted one staff member seating guests and perhaps another serving mains. Not exactly the lively welcome one would hope for.
Our first red flag was the free-flow salad bar, which was mostly empty when we arrived. It took 15–20 minutes for it to be restocked.
We decided to order steak and fish & chips. The steak was reasonable, nothing special but serviceable. The fish & chips, however, fell below average.
As dinner hour approached and the place filled up, the strain on staff became evident. I asked for salt and pepper for my steak—they never came. I’m not even sure they understood the request, but regardless, nothing ever appeared.
Reading through online reviews, it seems we weren’t the only ones who’ve observed that staff are often over-stretched and short-handed.
Summary:
Ambience & Service: Quiet early, slow seating, and clearly understaffed during peak hours.
Food: Steak is decent, fish & chips disappoints, and salad bar was initially underfilled.
Value: Good for budget diners who want cheap mains and salad bar access.
If you're okay with basic Western fare and want the salad bar experience on a tight budget, this might suit you. Otherwise, for better quality and service, I'd recommend places like Aston’s Steak & Salad, which offers a more reliable menu, friendlier service, and a richer salad bar overall.

Disappointed with the mains and salad bar. Some sides are always changing and seem to be worse every time I visit. We used to have broccoli and mushrooms a while back, then it became Brussels sprouts and roasted potatoes. Now it's baked beans. I can't believe it. The quality of food here seems to have dropped. The sides were also not refilled even though there were patrons. Disappointing.

I came with my friends and ordered the Ribeye steak meal. The steak was a bit tough. The salad bar was very nice, and the food was replenished quickly. Watermelon was very popular and finished very fast. I informed a staff member who topped up the watermelon straightaway.
There was a miscommunication regarding whether we could pay separately. When I arrived, a female staff member said we could, but when paying, the male cashier said we couldn't. He asked which staff member had said it, and I pointed out the female staff member. Only after we insisted on paying separately did he allow it. Paying separately is more work for him and takes a bit more time, however, it should be an option for us to choose from the start.
Just before that, he also came and cleared our cutlery, saying that we had reached the 90-minute time limit! Basically, he was directly asking us to leave. We understand the restaurant was very full, however, if we had been told in a nicer way, we would have left anyway as we were already full and wouldn't have stayed much longer. Overall, he was still polite, but the service still has a lot of room for improvement.

My bread and almost empty Mr Bean were confiscated and I was forced to leave them at the entrance by a rude staff member named Shazreen. This is my first time encountering a restaurant with such rules. What could they possibly be afraid we'd do with bread in a restaurant with an all-you-can-eat salad bar? (7:30 PM, 10th Sep 2025)

This review is long overdue, given how often I frequent this place. I remember my mother and I being absolutely blown away by the salad bar the first time we went — everything was prepared well, especially their creamed spinach, sweet potato fries, and truffle angel hair spaghetti. Salad bar access comes with every order of a main ($14.90++), which honestly, I have no complaints about; extra protein is good. Their truffle aburi and mentaiko are great if you like these flavour profiles. A definite must-try if you want to be filled and satisfied without breaking the bank.

It was our second visit to the store, and it's still as good as before. The food is always good. Most dishes were served quite quickly, except for the baked rice/pasta, which may require longer preparation. The best part of all is that we get free flow of food from the salad bar during the wait. Great service by the staff too.

Dined here a few weeks ago with a friend.
We got the black pepper chicken and tom yum chicken, both with a side of fries. The fries tasted pretty fresh and crispy, so we would have appreciated a slightly larger portion size. The chicken was average and not remarkable; you can get a similar or better standard elsewhere for the same price.
From the salad bar, there are plenty of sides to choose from, such as onion rings, broccoli, aglio olio, sweet potato fries, tofu, potato wedges, and more.
We weren’t fans of the cold sides like the truffle angel hair pasta and the actual salad items, but the hot sides, like those I mentioned, tasted okay. There are also many dips and dressings available. The potato wedges and onion rings could have used more seasoning, though.
We spent roughly $17 per pax. It's a good place to dine at if you’re feeling hungry and not just peckish.
However, do note the music here is quite loud, and the selection is brash and shrieky 2010s-2020s pop music, which may be a deliberate choice to shorten dining time…

It's a family-friendly restaurant. This was our first time trying it. The portion of food is just nice. The salad buffet is our family favourite, especially the mashed potato and the coleslaw. A nice dining experience and kudos to the service.

The first thing that caught my eye at this restaurant was the unlimited salad bar. The staff welcomed us to take a look. It looked more like a side dish bar, but we were more than happy to try it out.
Everyone who orders a main gets the unlimited salad bar, which is really affordable.
Although the chicken steak and baked rice were rather average, to be honest. Just choose your favourite flavour and you'll be good to go with the side dishes.
The side dishes were quite extensive and still warm, which is always good. The staff were quick to refill the salad bar.
Personally, I liked the mashed potato the most. You can request some peppers from the staff, and it tastes wonderful.
Sweet potato fries were a good add-on as well.
Overall, a great and satisfying experience.
