On the morning of 30 August, I visited your stall at the hawker centre to get takeaway breakfast for my family. Unfortunately, I was served by a lady who seemed unhappy and behaved quite rudely. There was a lack of basic courtesy and customer service. Even my young son asked why the lady was so unfriendly. It really left a bad impression on us. I understand it’s just a hawker stall, but as fellow Malays, we should still show good manners (adab) and basic respect, especially when dealing with customers. Honestly, this experience was disappointing and not worth the trip. I won’t be coming back.

At their Toa Payoh Lor 7 stall. Heard it's good so I tried. Hot and crispy, it seems to be a popular choice for many as the turnover is fast. Not too bad, a small puff.

Consistency is lacking, even though it's now made in a central kitchen. Compared to their earlier days under a different owner, it's like a totally different epok epok. Those days when the maciks who gathered in front of the stall made them were the best... although a bit oily, they were moist with thin and crispy skin... those were the good old days. I went today to try the epok epok again after a long absence, and it was disappointing. No improvement, worse, my favourite sardine tasted so off, and you could see that the sauce, which is usually moist inside, was absent. The curry epok epok didn't fare any better. The skin is thick, and the filling isn't that moist... it's hard to see my favourite curry puff degenerate so badly... haizzzz.

This used to be my favourite sardine puff with thin, crispy skin and spicy sardine filling. But things have declined. Now the skin is thick and not as crispy. The sardine filling is also sweeter than spicy. Not worth the price and quality.

This used to be my go-to spot for Epok Epok. Unfortunately, it seems they're no longer handmade like before; the texture of the skin just isn't the same. It's lost that light, crispy quality that made them so good. A bit of a letdown compared to how it used to be.

Malay store with Makcik filling the curry puffs and wrapping them up for frying inside the stall. Food quality: + Spicy sardine vs. Spicy kantang (potato) always have their proponents who argue one is better than the other. Both have their merits. - Quality sometimes not consistent, as there may not be sufficient sardine or onions in some cases. - Rather oily too. Food portion / Price: Small epok epok at $0.6/piece (last year was $0.5/piece, thank you inflation!). Crowd: Always expect a crowd, but the queue moves fast. Payment: Sg QR accepted.

Arguably one of the best genuinely handmade epok-epok around. The epok-epok were freshly fried. If you like crispy epok-epok, this is a must-have! Flaky, crunchy, yet feeling light in the mouth. The fillings were reasonably generous too. Both potato & sardine options were well-marinated and tasted awesome! Oh, and did I mention it costs only 60 cents per piece? Bang for buck, definitely.

The epok epok is very nice and cheap at only 50 cents! I don't usually like sardine curry puffs, but this one is good. The queue can get long, but it moves quite fast, except when their current batch runs out of stock and you have to wait around 30 minutes for the next batch. The mee soto is a bit pricey but also good. The chili is very spicy, so I recommend not putting too much.

Just join the queue! It's fast moving. It used to be 60 or 80 cents a piece (can't remember) when I last visited in February. Today's (3 Aug 2024) price is 5 pieces for $4 (you can mix kentang, sardine, or goreng pisang). Still affordable compared to commercial chain curry puff stores. Thin, crispy, flaky skin with generous filling. A no-frills snack like we used to buy from street, door-to-door peddlers in the 1970s. Childhood taste! 😋

Ordered 4 sardine and 4 potato curry puffs from this stall. The people at the stall were really friendly, and the curry puffs were really good. They have an old-school taste that got me reminiscing about my childhood days! You have to try it!
