Hei Sushi stands as a groundbreaking pioneer in Singapore's halal dining scene, proudly holding the distinction of being the city-state's first halal-certified Japanese conveyor belt sushi restaurant since its establishment in 2007. Created by the experienced team behind Sakae Sushi, this innovative concept emerged to fill a significant market gap by providing authentic Japanese cuisine that adheres to Islamic dietary requirements. With over 15 years of experience, Hei Sushi has revolutionized how Singapore's Muslim community experiences Japanese dining, transforming what was once an exclusive culinary experience into an inclusive one that welcomes diners of all backgrounds.
The restaurant's extensive menu showcases over 200 varieties of halal-certified Japanese dishes, featuring fresh sushi and sashimi prepared daily, an exciting conveyor belt system, steaming bowls of ramen, flavorful baked rice dishes, crispy tempura selections, and creative maki rolls. Each dish maintains the authentic Japanese flavor profiles while strictly adhering to MUIS halal certification standards, proving that religious dietary requirements need not compromise culinary excellence. The fun and trendy conveyor belt concept adds an element of entertainment to the dining experience, allowing guests to select their preferred dishes as they glide past their table while ensuring all ingredients meet halal standards.
With strategic locations across Singapore including Downtown East, IMM Shopping Mall, Sembawang Shopping Centre, and Woodlands Civic Centre, Hei Sushi has established itself as an essential destination for halal Japanese cuisine. The restaurant's success has paved the way for greater diversity in Singapore's halal dining landscape, demonstrating that traditional Japanese culinary techniques can be successfully adapted to meet religious dietary requirements. Despite the premium pricing that comes with specialized halal preparation and quality ingredients, Hei Sushi continues to serve as a beacon of culinary innovation, proving that inclusivity and authenticity can coexist in Singapore's dynamic food scene.

Hei Sushi offers a quiet and comfortable dining atmosphere, making it a pleasant spot for a casual meal. While the selection on the conveyor belt was quite limited during my visit, it was still convenient to place additional orders from the menu.
One area for improvement is the final bill — it lacked clear itemization, which made it a bit difficult to verify the charges. Greater transparency at checkout would definitely enhance the overall dining experience.
A decent option if you're looking for halal sushi in a more peaceful setting.

Went during dinner time on a weekday evening, and it wasn't packed. It was just my 4-year-old and me, and the waitress sat us at a 2-seater table without asking if we wanted a high chair. Then, she asked us to order via QR code, which didn't work for the 15 minutes we sat there. When I approached her to give feedback on the QR code issue, she just replied blankly that their Wi-Fi is slow and we should just wait. After waiting for 5 minutes, she didn't even bother to manually take our order. So, we just paid for one dish taken from the belt and left. The same waitress didn't even bother to ask us what was wrong or offer to take our order. I checked my network, and YouTube loaded fine. I tried with two different browsers, and both timed out. Poorly trained staff. I advise not to sit inside as their router doesn't cover that area. Other tables on the outside were able to order.

The waiter almost touched our food with his bare hands. The sushi had been on the conveyor for a very long time, and no one bothered to change it. This is very unhygienic. I would never come back. The water and wet tissues were also very overpriced, with tissues costing 50 cents and water costing $1.

Visited on 17 July 2025 at 7:30 PM and was shocked by the lack of basic customer service. No one was at the entrance to greet us; we stood there for 10 minutes. An older lady with short hair finally came out from the kitchen, glued to her phone. We had to call her four times before she even looked up, and she didn’t seem happy to serve us at all.
Only after we were seated did the rest of the staff appear. Where was the host? Where was the manager? The elderly staff were cold and rude, with no sense of customer care. The only decent service came from a younger staff member who was at least polite.
This outlet is a mess—no leadership, poor attitude, and totally unprofessional. It’s no wonder the place was nearly empty compared to other restaurants nearby. I won’t be coming back, and I don’t recommend this place to anyone who values proper service.

Been coming here for the past 10 years! My wife and I love this outlet so much! It's our comfort food all the time. Hopefully, they'll bring back the spicy clams like they used to have. They were awesome!

It's our first visit here and we're quite satisfied. It appears to be not a preferred place simply because it is within a shopping centre that is not linked to an MRT station. Nevertheless, Sembawang SC provides various shuttle buses to/from several locations; kindly Google for more info. It is also about four bus stops away from Sembawang MRT station (service 858). The food quality and speed of service were good. The dinner cost about S$117 for the three of us. Verdict: we will come again when we're looking for Japanese cuisine.
