Hei Sushi stands as a groundbreaking pioneer in Singapore's halal dining scene, proudly holding the distinction of being the city-state's first halal-certified Japanese conveyor belt sushi restaurant since its establishment in 2007. Created by the experienced team behind Sakae Sushi, this innovative concept emerged to fill a significant market gap by providing authentic Japanese cuisine that adheres to Islamic dietary requirements. With over 15 years of experience, Hei Sushi has revolutionized how Singapore's Muslim community experiences Japanese dining, transforming what was once an exclusive culinary experience into an inclusive one that welcomes diners of all backgrounds.
The restaurant's extensive menu showcases over 200 varieties of halal-certified Japanese dishes, featuring fresh sushi and sashimi prepared daily, an exciting conveyor belt system, steaming bowls of ramen, flavorful baked rice dishes, crispy tempura selections, and creative maki rolls. Each dish maintains the authentic Japanese flavor profiles while strictly adhering to MUIS halal certification standards, proving that religious dietary requirements need not compromise culinary excellence. The fun and trendy conveyor belt concept adds an element of entertainment to the dining experience, allowing guests to select their preferred dishes as they glide past their table while ensuring all ingredients meet halal standards.
With strategic locations across Singapore including Downtown East, IMM Shopping Mall, Sembawang Shopping Centre, and Woodlands Civic Centre, Hei Sushi has established itself as an essential destination for halal Japanese cuisine. The restaurant's success has paved the way for greater diversity in Singapore's halal dining landscape, demonstrating that traditional Japanese culinary techniques can be successfully adapted to meet religious dietary requirements. Despite the premium pricing that comes with specialized halal preparation and quality ingredients, Hei Sushi continues to serve as a beacon of culinary innovation, proving that inclusivity and authenticity can coexist in Singapore's dynamic food scene.

Great food but the worst service ever! I arrived on May 18th at 1:30 PM, and it's now 1:52 PM, and I'm still waiting outside for a table, even though there are two open tables! The staff looked at me three times and just ignored me. I am so disappointed. This is not how your customers should be treated. And I don't even blame him; he is the only one working, no one else was there. He brought out the drinks and food and was on his feet all the time. Where are the other workers? Unacceptable.

We ordered takeaway this evening, and the salmon sushi smelt so foul, I didn't dare to eat it. The tuna also looked like it had been there all day. We definitely won't be ordering food there again. The restaurant was empty, and rightly so.

Disappointing. For the price point, it was not up to par. I was here a couple of years ago and it wasn't great. We thought we'd give it another chance. Big mistake.
Chawanmushi was lukewarm at best. The curry rice with chicken was also lukewarm - the taste was mediocre and I couldn't finish it. The gyoza tasted of mushy flour. The sushi was thin, etc. In all, the food was a big letdown.
If I were to give them an excuse, I think they may be understaffed. Come on, management..
I rate them 1.5 stars, rounded up to 2 because of the perceived cleanliness and ambience.

Horrible. I witnessed a delivery guy being ignored multiple times despite him asking for his order. He was attended by a sloppy, feet-dragging staff member named Maricel. As a former restaurant manager, I know sloppy staff when I see one. Please send her for some free government-supported training if you must.

I decided to try the place out since I frequently visited the area. The price was ridiculous for the portion and quality of the food, especially the soft shell crab salad which was 10% crab and 90% vegetables. Very disappointed. Would not recommend.

The food here was super good. I ordered their Unatama don and pork belly don, paired with the flavoured Unatama don with some egg – super delicious! Their rice was great too, high quality, soft, and fluffy. The miso soup was also good, but not the best; the ingredients were a bit sparse, but the paste was good.

Still the best halal sushi restaurant to go to after all these years. It's the consistency in food quality. And oh! So in love with the mentaiko! Forever attentive and friendly staff. Hei Sushi at its Pasir Ris outlet never lets us down. All thumbs up! Thank you for the good service and good food.

The food quality and portion sizes are commendable—great value for the price. I appreciate the concept of offering affordable sushi for locals; it brought back memories of being among the early pioneers of such offerings in the country. Inflation has kicked in, so the food is no longer as cheap as it used to be.
The kids’ meals are well-suited for young children and hassle-free for parents, which is a big plus.
While the store could improve by offering more innovative sushi options, the overall experience is pleasant. There are plenty of seats and the space is cozy—perfect for families.
