SA-TAY positions itself within Singapore's rich satay culture, serving the skewered grilled meat dish that has become synonymous with local dining. This establishment joins a long tradition of satay vendors who have perfected the art of charcoal-grilling seasoned meat to achieve that distinctive smoky flavour and caramelised exterior that defines quality satay.

The restaurant focuses on preparing satay the traditional way: small pieces of marinated meat threaded onto bamboo skewers and grilled over charcoal flames. Each skewer is basted during cooking to build up layers of flavour and maintain moisture, while the charcoal imparts that essential smokiness you cannot replicate with gas or electric grills. Served with peanut sauce, rice cakes (ketupat), cucumber, and pickled vegetables, the complete satay experience balances richness, freshness, and acidity.

What makes satay special in Singapore is how this dish has transcended its Southeast Asian origins to become a defining element of local food culture. Whether enjoyed at hawker centres, by the roadside, or in dedicated restaurants like SA-TAY, this dish brings people together around communal tables, creating the kind of social dining experience that characterises Singaporean food culture.

For those seeking quality satay in a restaurant setting, establishments dedicated to this specialty can focus their efforts on perfecting marinades, grilling techniques, and sauce recipes. The result is consistently delicious satay that showcases why this simple dish has remained beloved across generations and continues attracting both locals and visitors.

Bad service. Utter nonsense. They gave small plastic containers for a large grab order. I ordered 30 chicken and 50 mutton, but only received 30 chicken and 10 mutton. Is this how you conduct business? No wonder there are so many bad reviews. Let's all stop patronizing this stall. The low rating speaks for itself. If you're not honest in your business, just close it down. I paid so much but received a shortage of food items. Don't tell me it was a busy day or anything like that; that's nonsense. Your job is to prepare the food we bought and double-check the order. We are paying for the food, not getting it for free, okay? You should really knock some sense into your staff or whoever is responsible. Pathetic.

The food was served cold after a long wait. I ordered the satay, squid, and prawns. The squid had a peculiar taste, and I didn't even finish it. A few sticks of prawn were also undercooked. I would suggest patrons explore other stalls before rushing to order from this one.

This is the most expensive satay stall at East Coast Lagoon (90 cents per stick). The size is decent and the taste is average. I'm definitely not a returning customer.

Was told the order would be fast. Upon ordering, I waited almost half an hour only to be told that order preparation had just started. After 45 minutes, I was still waiting, and my other food was turning cold. I already knew my order was missed, yet it was still not expedited whatsoever. Zero initiative. Do not overpromise next time. This is my first and last time patronising. Avoid!

Worst service. They charged me $10 for 10 satays, which was $1 more expensive than the price on the menu. After taking my number, they asked me to pick up my satays after 20 minutes. Some other satay shops will serve the food to your table. I waited for 30 minutes, but the food turned out cold and some parts of the chicken were badly burnt. The staff was also rude to me when I ordered. He raised his voice without asking what type of meat for the satays. Really pissed off with their lousy service and lousy food.

Decent satay with a delicious, albeit small, serving of satay sauce. Do take note of their prices.

Love their chicken satay! The peanut sauce is very yummy too, especially compared to one stall nearby. Bought it twice in the afternoon because my kids love it. $9 per 10 pcs! Will be back for sure…
