Crolo by Swee Heng represents the innovative evolution of Singapore's beloved Swee Heng Bakery legacy, launched in January 2021 by founder Eric Ng as a specialized halal-certified concept dedicated to bringing premium croissant culture to Singapore's heartlands. Inspired by a transformative visit to a Japanese-style croissant store in Taiwan, Eric embarked on a year-long research and development journey to create affordable, authentic croissants that would make French pastry artistry accessible to all communities. This groundbreaking venture combines the trusted Swee Heng heritage of quality baking with contemporary croissant innovation, establishing itself as the first major halal-certified croissant specialist in Singapore's competitive bakery landscape.
The menu at Crolo showcases over 30 meticulously crafted varieties of croissants, spanning both sweet and savory creations that demonstrate remarkable culinary creativity and technical precision. Signature offerings include decadent Blackforest and mentaiko crolo, seasonal apple crumble and mango custard variations, rich chocolate ganache selections, and innovative snow crab croissants that blend French technique with Asian flavors. Each croissant is baked fresh daily from scratch, ensuring the perfect balance of buttery richness and flaky texture, with pricing strategically positioned at $1.30 for small croissants and $2.80 for larger varieties. The bakery's signature buy-6-get-2 promotion makes premium croissants exceptionally accessible to families and regular customers.
Since obtaining MUIS halal certification, Crolo by Swee Heng has successfully democratized French pastry culture for Singapore's Muslim community while establishing strategic locations in Tampines, Ang Mo Kio, and Northpoint to serve heartland residents. The venture's success reflects Singapore's appetite for innovative halal baking concepts that respect traditional techniques while embracing local preferences and accessibility. Crolo continues to expand the definition of halal bakeries in Singapore, proving that premium European pastry traditions can be authentically adapted to serve diverse communities without compromising on quality, flavor, or craftsmanship.

Looks good, but the taste is so-so. The chocolate tasted bitter, perhaps burnt? It was an unpleasant experience with the unfriendly staff who handled the croissant. Not recommended.

The middle-aged worker there was very blur and gave me the wrong bread. Yesterday, I wanted to buy 3 caramel cream croissants, and I told this worker clearly, even pointing at the specific croissant on the display shelf. She randomly gave me 2 unrelated breads and a caramel-coated croissant. Very unhappy and disappointed with this experience.

Ordered chicken ham with scrambled eggs, but they gave me hard-boiled eggs instead. Was it because the staff were busy chatting with each other?

Poor quality. The pistachio puff has no pistachio flavor. They don't use quality ingredients. They save on production costs but have lost their customers forever. $3.2 for a fake pistachio puff, I won't be coming back. Pathetic.

Bought the 5 for $6 croissants and realised they were placed in plastic bags. When I asked for a box, the auntie said I needed to buy 10. I added more items, and she helped transfer them to the box. I was shocked that she squeezed all 10 pieces into this small box and had to tape all sides of it (which is usually done for half a dozen donuts). If this is the company's SOP, please review it. The pastries were squeezed, and some custard smeared on the box, making them totally not look nice as a gift.

Their croissants are nice. I tried their custard and caramel croissants; they were puffed up with fillings and not too sweet or salty. They have a very good promotion of 6 croissants for $6 close to closing time, which is definitely worth it. The staff were also friendly and polite.

Bought several flavors of croissants, including chilli crab, chicken mayo, egg mayo, tuna, strawberry, and chicken with ham, to share with my team during IWD. Everyone enjoyed them so much! I can’t wait to try more flavors. It was a pleasant surprise to know this is under the wing of Swee Heng. They never fail to provide quality and good taste.

As I was just saying about overhyped croissants in my chwee kueh review (posted a few hours earlier), I chanced upon what looked like an appetising and sizeable piece of crusty pastry at Crolo...
So, without much hesitation, I ordered a butter croissant to take home. And I'm just finishing up while starting this review 😋
If one can prejudge such a delicate pastry by what falls off while handling it, then Crolo's bake will surely make the cut as a delectable treat!
Indeed, sampling the flaky crust revealed a buttery texture that's not overpowering and with just a hint of salt. Very tasty, I must say :)
When cut open, the insides are not too dense and clearly not airy -- this gave the croissant a chewy bite which, in my opinion, will satisfy the bread lover's instinct 💯
Spread on some (lightly salted) Lurpak... and I was almost in croissant heaven for a couple of minutes 😍
Granted, I did not reheat the pastry. So a truer test would be to catch their croissants fresh out of the oven! Next time, I'll check with them about their bake schedules ;)
So move over, TB bakery (and Au*)! There are better croissant options out there, both tastier and more wallet-friendly :) #MHTamChiak and others now have another great choice 👍
*In Chinese dialect, "au" sounds like their term for lousy! What a name to pick lol

One of our favourite bakeries! Their Crolos are very delicious and made fresh. Many different flavours to choose from, you will be spoilt for choice. The bun is very soft and fragrant, and the ingredients are fresh as well.
There's usually a long queue, but it's worth the wait. Highly recommend trying it!
